Description
About This SettingThis setting is used to simulate another property of real-world physics. If you've got the Bill Nye theme stuck in your head, you will recognize this phrase: "Inertia is a property of matter." But what exactly IS inertia? It is the ability of matter to resist sudden changes in movement, and you can see this in the GIF above.
Inertia is the reason why a car doesn't immediately come to a stop if you take your foot off the gas. It will either coast to a stop gradually from the result of other forces robbing it of momentum, or you have to put your foot on the brake. Or, if you're having a really bad day, it will stop when it hits another object with greater inertia that is not moving, such as a tree or a wall.
Inertia also is what keeps your laptop from falling off of the table. Since it's not already moving, it generally doesn't want to start moving unless something else acts on it. Perhaps a naughty cat deciding to scoot things around.
In other words, an object in motion wants to stay in motion, while an object at rest wants to stay at rest.
Miku vs Movement Miku
When Movement Miku is jumping up, notice her pigtails and bangs are hesitant to follow. And then when she starts to come back down, you can see that her hair wants to keep going up before it is finally dragged back down by the rest of her body and by gravity. Her tie is also kind of staying suspended once it gets going, and her skirt seems to balloon out a bit more every time she comes back down from the top of her jump. It may seem like this setting is causing stuff to move more, which may be part of why it was translated the way that it was. However, if you look closely, you'll see that most of the movement is from the physics twisting in place, and there's much less sliding around. If you want something to not resist changes in direction, you'll want to give it a low number for this setting.
