I got a question. With the drawing tablet, I did the same as you said in your tutorial here. However, it didn't happen something special when I "pressed the pen harder". It was always the same size.
What did I wrong?

hmmm...it sounds like your pen pressure isnt working. When you make a brush stroke, does it start out as a small tip, or does it come out as a flat, one sized circle? If your pen pressure is working properly, you should be able to go from a 1px brush stroke to whatever size larger you choose.
If you havent installed your tablet yet, or if the tablet your using isnt compatible with that computer (either the computer doesnt recognize it as a tablet, or it doesnt have the software to support that tablet) then try installing it or using it on a different computer. You could also check your tablet settings under your programs and see if the pen pressure is turned off. Thats all the advice and thoughts i can give as to why your tablet isnt working. Im not a master with them myself, so everything i nkow is based off of experience

thank you so much. i see alot of people talking about how basic this was...and i needed that! i'm a good artist in my own right, but doing things on the computer is a little tricky to get used to. i have a manual for photoshop but there are just some tricks that only someone else can tell you. so thanks! this was so helpful.

Thanks ! But I have a question : the tablet is necessary, ok I have one, but it's not a Wacom or a big brandmark... Mine costed me 35 € (about 30$ XD) so it is of course not a excellent tablet, but do you think I can doas weel as you with training ?
Anyway, Thanks again for you great tutorial !

I have the same problem I think it might be because of the version of Photoshop or whichever program your using... do you know for sure that your pen pressure works? You can check in an MSN screen, mine does work there...

im confused...your texture settings is different from the one at the other website. it says scale 28% and depth 25% and invert texture. but yours is different. should i follow the picture in your tutorial or the instructions in the link to the other website?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Andoledius In reply to JePhErZ [2007-10-25 23:52:03 +0000 UTC]
hmmm.
The scale only adjusts the size of the brush texture, so honestly its importance isnt that great. 100% just means that it will show the brush texture at its full size, and 28% will mean the texture will be smaller. I've personally never noticed a difference with either of them, and adjust the scale all the time depending on what im doing
The depth is really up to you, since it shows how sharp the brush can get, or how soft. (the most soft is at 0% and the highest is 100%. i usually put mine in or around the 20-30's depending on how sharp i want it)
The inverted texture im not so sure about, i usually dont use it myself. try fooling around with it. make one brush stroke with inverted texture and one without, and see if there's a difference, or which one you like better ^^
My best advice is just fool around with the settings now that you know how to access them and how they work. if not, you can just pick my settings or hers and just go that way. They're both really similar in the end anyway.

Nice detail in the tutorial. I also like the way you showed the direction in which you do the strokes as well as the pressure. Very good for tablet users. Though not so much for mouse.
Delightful job

how do you set up to pressure sensitive? I mean... I got an old tablet, and I click on: pressure sensitive in the window you show in texture and things... but it doesn't work. do I need a special tablet or something?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Andoledius In reply to ToasterRepairUnit [2007-09-24 23:29:24 +0000 UTC]
hmmm....pressure sensitivity is supposed to be automatic with most tablets, what brand do you have?
You could try going to your tablet manual, or go to the settings of your tablet on the computer and see if you can get it to work from there. otherwise, im not sure how i can help, sorryy D:

Thank you so much for making this! I used it and my pic looks even more adorable then it did as a sketch! <3
The only problem I had is for my Photoshop; I don't have everything arranged the same as yours, and that's probably because it's a different version. Therefore, I kept freaking out cuz, I couldn't find the "little clipboard". xD
Thankfully, it turned out good. I think I should have used the pencil instead or whatever, cuz it's got a bit of a blurry look to it. Though, it gives it kinda a glowy look also.
Anywho, thanks again so much for this tutorial. Very easy to understand and it makes me feel good that I got my first Photoshop lineart done.

I got a question... about the brush you made with the pattern^^.
What is the different without, I don't see it, but I still use it for some unknown reason lol^^.

Andoledius In reply to Icetrix [2007-08-27 15:31:52 +0000 UTC]
when your brush tapers off, the texture will give it a different effect, depending on what setting you have it on. It could make it sharper or duller, sometimes it does nothing. :B I dont think the texture has an extremely important significance in this tutorial, but i guess it doesnt hurt to not use it C:
