It's true,  the esternal shape resemble the internal operation, the action of the little one is typically the blow back system, those of the bigger one is tipically the short recoil, and the most importan archetypes of the modern automatic pistols in my mind are the Browning M1906 or if you prefer the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket, and of course the Colt M1911,
the strange shape of the the first automatic pistol is the mirror of the first attempts to produce automatic pocket weapons without previous precedents, then there was a Darwinian selection towards the perfect form, and of course Mr Browning was a real genius

I'm no history expert by any means, but I do have an appreciation for important antique firearm models.  But, no Mauser C96?  I may be wrong, but I thought it was standard issue to certain types of units, such as artillery?  Was it too unusual/unique to be considered "standard" issue?

AndreaSilva60 In reply to macguffin78 [2019-09-06 11:52:15 +0000 UTC]

It was a standard issue indeed, it was issued to the machine gun gunners and the artillery men, even if the ordnance sidearm was the Luger P08.

There are 2 of 3 pistols of that era I love the most. Luger 1908 and Steyr 1912. The missing one is Savage 1907 in .45ACP — just beautiful art déco handgun.

I love them all, I did the Savage in a second table about the foreign contract sidearm.

The Nambu is the most underrated pistol of all world war era pistol.I see Lot of comment many people think Nambu is the dangerous pistol because people see the TFB TV and judge the Nambu is the worst pistol of all time.In reality Nambu is pretty good pistol. In case of the TFB TV,The Nambu firing pin is damaged already and causes pistol accidental discharge and the jamming problem is caused by the crappy unreliable reproduction 8mm Nambu. If the pistol use the proper ammo the pistol will run smooth.unfortunately most of the repro ammo are  low quality  and causes pistol cannot operate smoothly. If somebody want to know more about the Nambu Type A, please check out The C&Rsenal video about The Nambu Type A pistol www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnpXWX…

Thank you for the tip

May be that the Nambu wasn't the best of the possible military sidearm, but of course it was tested,
and it overcame the military trials before being adopted by the Japanese Army, certainly it was not dangerous for those who used it, and
generally the pistols do not fire many shots in their operational life.

Japan military used the Nambu Type A since 1903(officer private purchase) /1909(Japan Navy adoption ) and the officer seems happy with the Nambu. But the high cost and time consuming manufacture make the Japan military decided to used Type 14(cheap but low quality version of the Nambu) instead. This is why most of the firing pin broken problem is came from the Type 14 and not the Nambu Type A.The military trials in 1902 and 1908 prove the Nambu is the good pistol for officer but the Japan army decided no adopt the Nambu Type A is because pistol is time consuming to produce, army has no budget and army think the pistol is not necessary for combat But the Japan navy adopt the Nambu Type A since 1909.

What's a "Blowback" operating system?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AndreaSilva60 In reply to Snaily123 [2019-04-19 15:04:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, in the simplest case the bolt blows back pushed by the explosion and a recoil spring push it back, where it inserts a new ammo in the cartridge chamber.

I've always been a fan of the M1911, the C96, the P08, and the Webley Mk. VI.

The Nagant revolver was a stroke of genius but the end result was poor ballistics. The cylinder would actually be brought forward to the forcing cone to seal the gap. Gases would not escape and the bullet would not lose so much velocity— problem was that the bullet was receded into the casing for a better seal and was extremely slow to begin with.

Nagant's idea was good, but the result was doubtful, the pistols that you have listed were really excellent.

The Nagant revolver is sort of like an air soft or a pellet pistol.

Hey, for $230 one can get a surplus revolver with a 50rd box of cartridges here. Too bad everytime one pops up its taken quickly.

The 1911, best military gun ever. Even if it is heavy. The gremans to some degree had the c96 too.

This was one of the most difficult table,  it took lot of time, and when I was composing the imagine from the different files,  during a cat and past, and various rename I lost the Luger,  I was so pissed off that the new Luger  I drew   is a little scruffy.

Talk about diy toys, My brothers and I used to made bows and arrows, that were quite powerful and lethal toys.We played with them in the ruins and abandoned buildings.

Yes...Back in the 1990s,many old builidings in our city were abandoned and crumbled into ruins.Armed with machete, bow and arrow, crowbar and hammer,my cousins and me adventured in the ruins, broke into abandoned buildings and looking for whatever we like, that was quite thrilling experience.

I giapponesi sono strani persino nella fabbricazione di armi. I francesi mi sembrano amanti del lontano ovest.

AndreaSilva60 In reply to Shesvii [2017-04-04 19:47:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow, I just found that you have a collection of WWI weapon artwork, beautiful work, sir! Even though pistols played such a small role on the battlefields of WWI, there were some truly revolutionary new handgun designs that made their claim to fame in the Great War. The Webley Mk. VI is a personal favorite of mine, and the Colt 1911 is an American legend! (I guess I fit the American stereotype for loving the 1911 so much, haha xD)
