Description EDIT: Wow!! A Daily Deviation! Many thanks to Catgirldstr11 for proposing it and cosmicbound for featuring it.
This is my 12th DD. I'm humbled and honored. A big thank you to everyone who comments and favorites my images.

This one was obviously inspired by my previous image, link below, and especially by an interesting exchange of ideas that took place in the comments section there. I thought of doing now a somewhat similar mix of natural and artificial elements, from a similar point of view, but with a radically different balance of said elements, to compare the reactions. Let's call it a 'sociological experiment'.

Here's the link for the original image:

The coexistence of man and nature, and the necessary harmony in this relationship, is something that you'll find in many of my images. However, as I found out in that exchange of ideas I mentioned, for any given concept the perceived level of harmony can vary dramatically depending on the sociological and cultural background of the viewer. That is fascinating.

This is especially fascinating if we consider that humankind will some day settle colonies in other planets and therefore these colonies will be tremendously different depending on the socio-cultural background of the settlers. I had never thought about that seriously until that moment.

This particular cave in this image was a repurpose (with many changes) of a cave that I made for these images:

The concept of elevated pathways is also a recurring theme in several of my images, here are just two, I have several more:

As always, this image was rendered in Vue in a 3D virtual world that I created, without photo-manipulation.

Thanks for your detailed reply Arthur! I too think it's best to let people have their own ideas about art, although the Calvinist practice of discussing the Creators intentions for his creations can add a beautiful layer of significance. Especially when unseen themes connect to each other. Perhaps that theme of freedom is a part of why people, even if they experience it in a different way, like your art. Don't we all want to escape society and reality? Something to think about

Wow, this one is similar to the first one, but it has much more impact. The water adds perspective - she's not just having a darkness behind her, but just some shadows. It's like she's the source of the sea coming out from her spot. Everything flows from her. She's the basis of creation. And the contrast of her red colors and the blue environment - it's like a spark of creation was brought to that world.Β

Thank you, my friend. It's interesting how small details make a big difference, isn't it? Also particularly interesting that these differences were born from a viewer's comments, which just proves once again that debate does bring enlightenment. Which is one thing I would miss in that island we were talking about the other day.

You draw very interesting analogies, some of which were not consciously in my mind, but now that you say it, it seems so clear that it probably means they were in my subconscious mind, which helps me discover myself. Thank you for your incredible insight once again.

As someone who missed the festivities by being born twelve years late, am most delighted to see that 1972 has not quite ended yet.

Well done.

Thank you for a very interesting comment.
I was a child in 1972 but shortly after, when I was a teenager in the late 70s and early 80s, I covered my bedroom walls with the art of Roger Dean, Rodney Matthews and a few others. At the same time, I was listening to Genesis, Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson and a few more, while I was reading Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Clifford Simak, etc. I was heavily influenced by this imagery and "spirit" of all of these mixed influences.
I guess that still shows today.

Yes! Finally someone mentions not only Rodney Matthews, but together with Roger Dean.

Two of my favourite illustrators of all time, especially their late 80's and 90's work for the Amiga, both original and repurposed. Think Matthews' Heavy Metal Hero could be my favourite cover art ever.
Very glad to see someone familiar with their work. So strange to see that both seem to be fairly obscure today, especially since as far as I know both are still active.

ArthurBlue In reply to Tinselfire [2018-03-18 23:34:55 +0000 UTC]

They are also my favourite illustrators, together with Michael Whelan. I can look at their work for hours (well, as a matter of fact, I have ).
I even bought some Magnum albums just to have a piece of Rodney Matthews art, I wasn't that crazy about the music itself. It was the case of "On a Storytellers night", for example. That cover just fascinated me, all the details and nuances, the atmosphere he created, the story telling. Back in the days, albums were still in vinil, so the album cover was big. Another advantage of the 70s and 80s.

As a teenager, I wished so hard that some day I could do something similar. Then I grew out of it but from your comment I see that some remains must have stayed, lingering. I was really happy to read your comment.
You know, these three guys are one of the main reasons why in my intro, in my profile page, I say I don't consider myself an artist. And I don't, because that would be like putting myself at the same level of these guys and that I could never do. I don't know exactly where I fit, but I know it's not there and never will be.

Tinselfire In reply to ArthurBlue [2018-04-03 14:16:46 +0000 UTC]

Whelan as well?
You are full of surprises. My own appreciation of Whelan is admittedly shallow, mostly for his work for Moorcock; but what a sight that is. One can easily understand why Moorcock himself holds Whelan's "green" Elric in particularly high regard. First the combination of majestic and desperate makes him uncannily fascinating, but moreso since Whelan seems to have read a detail most artists overlook or ignore: While tall and sleek, under his saffron robes Elric is indeed very fit. That is among his weaknesses since when not fully drugged up, he bends under his own weight - Whelan shows well why.

I used to be free with calling myself an artist, but I ceased after recognising how many contemporary "artists" have neither practical skills nor creativity to speak of and seem more concerned with antics and politics, while countless fantastically skilled painters remain unknown or even openly belittled. Tried setting a list of things to learn and goals to achieve before I would call myself an artist again - but of course, as a side effect of learning, the list just keeps getting longer.
Personally I hope it never fully stops growing.
