Oh, I just now notice that my old account was tagged in this.
You can do the auroras in many, many colours, but don't overdo it. I tried with a dozen or so colours once. It turned out a reddish-gray; so I'd say don't go over five and try to keep them in the same colour area. Like, don't match green and violet without shifting to blue first.

This response is so overdue oh god don't mind me
Thanks for pointing out the problem with the colors. This is a very early stage in my adventures in paint and I'm gonna redo a ton of my tuts so they're more comprehensive and helpful. Although a lot of people use this tut, I admit seeing many of them abusing the auroras like there's no tomorrow and I should address that.

That's okay, it's fine.
How would you even abuse an aurora? ono

I've seen them being used with every color you can imagine or they take up the entire image as if the rest of the sky doesn't exist, haha. In future tuts, I'm gonna actually explain how the aurora should be used along with how to make it. While making a sparkle rainbow aurora isn't a bad thing (I don't wanna tell people how to draw) but it isn't always visually pleasing to look at, especially if someone is actually trying to improve their art.

Well, that would be abusing an aurora for sure.
Doing them by hand is definitely harder, so I can kind of see their point of view, but... I personally like to hide slight patterns where they might not be noticed, but whatever works, I guess.

What in particular is not working for you?

when i open the resize/skew options it does not show 'stretch' as it does on yours so i tried both resize and stretch but they did not work

What version of mspaint do you have? If it's win 7, pressing
"ctrl + w" at the same time should be bring up resize and skew.
"Stretch" does not appear in the new version but is instead "resize."
It should work the same way as it does in the old version.
Also, be sure to uncheck the "maintain aspect ratio" box every time
you use it.

Just LOVE this tutorial!
And I love auroras!
I made one! [link]
The best thing about this is you could make SO many different ones. Like mine is a lot thicker than yours, but they both look super epic!

Windows 7: Try unchecking the "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox. It then works for me.

i have windows 7 mspaint how do you do it on there

Brahkest In reply to furryupsidedown [2011-04-27 20:46:57 +0000 UTC]
sorry, can't help you there this seems to only work on the old mspaint (I've tried several ways on windows 7 paint, but the skew option doesn't seem to allow any individual change for either vertical or horizonal)

i dunno...how do ya do the...or how do u mean that 'colors blend'? i cant explain sry xD

Brahkest In reply to OkamiiRaiin [2011-03-11 21:55:44 +0000 UTC]
I think I see XD well, when you put your colors as diagonal ~as seen in the tut~ and skew them to 1%, the colors should not be distinctly different, but blend together as a gradient ~which is easily seen when skewed larger by 500% a few times. This technique doesn't seem to work for those who have ms paint for the new windows though. Hope this explains it, I can't really think of anything else
