Description
Illustration for a steampunk-Western RPG by Wicked North Games. A tribute to the Star Wars walkers of my youth. Where did I find my inspiration for this design? Why a ceiling fan of course!Related content

It was fun to work in the Steampunk genre, Rev. A good change for me. Very glad you enjoy it!

This looks awesome, it's a very original and unorthodox design too on the second look. (Dual Gun on wheel, cockpits at the side) I like the retro vibe of your drawings and the old-fashioned coloring.

Hee hee! Thank you for the encouraging words, Niribur. I appreciate your thoughtful comment. "Unorthodox"..."retro"...and "old-fashioned" are exactly right. Those are words that I warmly embrace. In this age of digital tools, I am slipping into the Age of Dinosaurs! *smile* This 'Steam Mech' piece was a blast to do! It was inspired by a ceiling fan (the body...turned sideways).Β Inspiration can be found in the strangest of places!

Very cool, there should be a model kit of this!

Well THAT would be cool, Andreas! *smile* I saw an opportunity to pay tribute to my Star Wars days...thus the "walker" look. The central "engine" unit was inspired by a ceiling fan.

A much cooler design than that f***-awful robot spider junkheap in the Wild Wild West movie!

Chris...Chris. *shaking head* Such language! *smile* Very true. That "spider" design was f***ing atrocious. Glad you like my ceiling fan-inspired Mech!

Hey, my suspension of disbelief goes quite a ways... but it started creaking in alarm at the monster-spider-oilrig-thing.
I did a little digging about that movie, and learned that a 'creative source' involved with Wild Wild West had previously worked on the aborted Nicolas Cage Superman project... This fellow insisted on Superman not having his costume or being able to fly because that was "dumb", but he was obsessed with having a ginormous spider monster because spiders "were really scary".

Y'know what's really scary? Someone who thinks that a flying Superman is dumb.

I couldn't agree more. It'd be like having Doctor Who without the TARDIS, or not having any lightsabers in a Star Wars movie!

Yeah! Or not having ropes, pullies, and a safety net in the be....oh never mind.

Thanks, Chad. I did four pieces for Westward...and tied them together with similar colors. The reddish-orange-rust backgrounds. I thought it appropriate for steampunk!

Having gone on record saying you're my favorite Star Wars RPG artist, Mike, I am excited beyond belief to be sharing art credit with you on the Westward project! Great job on all the pieces!

Thanks, Khairul. Even in a limited role I played (4 pieces), I had a blast! I haven't gotten the chance to really look through the PDF version...So I'm looking forward to seeing the result.

Ceiling fan! Ha cool! Reminds me a bit of the war wheel from DC comics but with killer robot legs.
Steam gun eh? What a horrible way to die.

An extended moment of joy. A teensy-weensy moment of pain. Heh...and you thought all moments were exactly alike. Silly boy!

The pressurized steam in this case has been focused and released by the cannons. When walking...the steam pressure is slowly released by valves locatedΒ on the upper-backside of the "legs". You can see some of that above the body of the "beast".
