Description
I'm pretty new to DeviantArt, and people have been very kind so far.So, here's my cel-shading tutorial. Really basic, it's my first one and probably not very good/a little confusing, but I really tried to make sense, I swear. If you have any questions about something in the tutorial, please put them in the comments or message me and I'll try to clarify!
If you'd like to see a bigger version of the finished image from this tutorial, here it is -->
Hopefully the tutorial is useful to somebody!
Thanks,
-Jen
Edit: Thank you so much for the DD! I'm honored. I would have never expected to get one on my old FMA artwork, haha. It's been over a year since I made this tutorial, but I hope you fine people still find it to be helpful.

Ah, thanks so much! <3 I'm glad it's helpful to you. c: I know that vague tutorials always frustrated me, haha. As far as lineart goes, I am considering doing a tutorial on it, but it might take a while. In the meantime, here's a tutorial that helped me out a lot when I was just starting to do lineart with my tablet! It might help you as well: [link]

Thanks so much for the reply and the link, you're awesome! Can;t wait to try it out, i'm usually really shakey with a tablet, but it helps when they give hints on the best direction to draw in, so thanks!

Good tutorial, really, but this definitely isn't cel-shading.

Thanks. I'm not entirely sure of the technical definition of cel-shading, I've just seen this style of shading commonly referred to as cel-shading style, so that's how I refer to it here.

This [link] is technically cel-shading. Your style is close, but not exactly the same principle. Of course, I guess if the community uses the word "cel-shading" to describe this style, then I suppose the term has adopted a new meaning.

Thanks for clarifying! Yes, I think that the widespread use of the term has made it a sort of slang for solid-color shading. c:

Oh gosh. This is just amazing. Thank you so much for posting this!!
I've been trying to learn how to cell shade for awhile, and not only did I learn cel shading from this, but I also learned a lot of new things about Photoshop (I have Elements 6, so it helped a bunch that you weren't using CS >w< )
And congrats on the DD. This is well deserving of one.

This is really helpful! I suck at photoshop (or am just too damn lazy to learn it by myself). It's nice to see what little buttons that can really make the effect that I want. Thank you for a great tutorial!
