Description I'm pretty new to DeviantArt, and people have been very kind so far. So I thought I'd do something for you guys! I've had a couple of people message me asking for a tutorial, and I figured I'd give it a try.

So, here's my cel-shading tutorial. Really basic, it's my first one and probably not very good/a little confusing, but I really tried to make sense, I swear. If you have any questions about something in the tutorial, please put them in the comments or message me and I'll try to clarify!

Edit: Thank you so much for the DD! I'm honored. I would have never expected to get one on my old FMA artwork, haha. It's been over a year since I made this tutorial, but I hope you fine people still find it to be helpful.

Nice Tut but,
One question: I tried this with a mouse in hand. And bloody hell. Now I am left up with a few strands of hair on my head. How to do this with a mouse. Especialy the sketching part???

Thanks! And there are a few problems with doing cel-shading with a mouse, it's true. The sketch I did in the tutorial was sketched out on paper, then scanned in. Back when I used a mouse to do my digital art, I would do a lineart on paper with Micron pen and scan it in, because it's just about impossible to do it digitally with a mouse, haha. After that, you can set your layer to 'multiply' and use your mouse to color underneath. It's harder--it takes a really steady hand, but it is possible. c:

Sketching with a mouse is hell. Before I had a tablet, I drew it by hand and then scanned it. It's just too hard to get clean lines with a mouse x.x

This helps so much it's ridiculous! I've been hiding behind soft cg-ing (not that's it's bad looking anyway...;D) because my cell shading is butt.

The most difficult part is determining the "shape" and placement of shadows.
