Description
The Ranger-Class was introduced in the mid to late 2260's and it's design was based heavily on the NX/Columbia-Class Starship from the 2150's. The Ranger was initially design concept was to resolve situations through combat. Thus, the Ranger and its sister ships were often found on the boarders of Federation Space. By the early to mid 2270's the Ranger, along with other classes of ships in the Federation's Armada was refited with the latest and updated tech.

In 2271 during the V'Ger Crisis, Captain La'an Noonien-Singh was given command of the U.S.S. Shenzhou (NCC-1227-A) and headed the evacuation of the Lunar colonies when V'Ger was less then four hours away from Earth Orbit. Meny of the ships ther where still under refit where left abandoned at the Copernicus Fleetyards as they where not considered space worthy for flight.
