This took F-O-R-E-V-E-R !
Photoshop kept dying on me. So I am going to try and do the breakfast one tomorrow. I think I am done with photoshop for today. I didn't think this would take so much time and be so huge.
Enjoy. If you make something with this please link back here so more people can learn how.

I do not suggest or recommend making polymer clay plugs for your ears. Polymer clay is not "clay" but a form or porous plastic. Meaning, your ears might grow into them! There haven't not been many cases but don't risk your ears!

i have a question about baking. I baked my clay for 15 minutes at 275 like sculpey said and i poked it a little with a forked when it came out and it wasn't really soft but the fork still left a mark so i put it back in for 7 minutes thinking it was a little thicker than 1/4 inch but when it came out it wasn't any harder. Does it get a little harder after it cools or am I just not baking it enough for fear of burning my little sculpey pies?

when it first comes out of the oven its still fairly soft, not enough to squash ir, but enough to have dents left on it, so leave it for a few mins to cool down and it sets - i hope that helps xD

you could make a sushi necklace with a clay shrimp that hangs down right in the middle
-sushi- -sushi-
-sushi- -sushi-
-shrimp-
just like that!

Hello, would like to ask u ('cuz i've not done anything with polymer clay b4 & would like to), does polymer clay stick to the oven tray when baking?
And IF it does, what can be done to solve this problem? Like place a sheet of _____ or spread a layer of _____?
Please reply me ASAP, thank u very much for your help! D

chat-noir In reply to azukibeanmochi [2009-01-04 17:30:17 +0000 UTC]
You can just place a sheet of white printer paper on the cooking sheet and bake your clay items on top of that. The low baking temperature for the clay will not burn or harm the paper or your charms.

How do you put color to the clay? Can colored clay be bought in stores? Thanks. I'm hoping to make this over our summer break.

They do sell pre-colored polymer clay, which is what I used in this tutorial. Yet, if you do not have pre-colored clay you can grind up chalk pastels and add them to white clay to make other colors.

i love this tutorial its very well made but when i got up to the part of rolling out the complete cane to make it thinner, the layers sort of separated from each other. Would this be because it was cooled down and isnt sticking to the other sections and layers of then cane? It also happened when i was conditioning the clay, instead of rolling out it sort of rolled onto its self and broke apart
š: 0 ā©: 1
chat-noir In reply to craiganater [2008-11-20 23:13:06 +0000 UTC]
*nod* The clay must all be warm and conditioned so that it will blend together to create one image. Air might also have been trapped between the layers preventing them from bonding correctly.
Your clay might need more conditioning or it could need more plasticizer. If more conditioning does not help you then put on some rubber gloves and blend -one drop- of vegetable oil into the clay. Only do one drop at first because a little goes a long way and it will take a while to be blended into the clay. It will help make your clay more malleable.
Hope this helped

whoaaa! this is kewllll! im thinking about making one of these.__. can you kinda give me some information on what a "cane technique" is though? i dont get it.. ._.

Caning is creating an image in cane form by layering different shapes and colors. This tutorial creates a cane with the image of sushi inside of it.
After this tube or 'cane' is made you can cut of slices and have identical beads/images.

Canes. My biggest weakness when it comes to clay. xP Mine always seem to come out contorted when I cut them. (Y'know, with streaks of color going acrossed the bead/sushi/disk/etc.) That freeze-it tip might be something I should try though... And it would help if I updated my crappy you-can-tell-that-clay-sculpting-isn't-my-main-hobby straight edge too.

chat-noir In reply to BlueBead [2008-07-24 17:03:04 +0000 UTC]
Freezing will help a bit but it sounds like your cutting tool might be dull. Try getting a new blade. That should makes things a bit easier.

BlueBead In reply to chat-noir [2008-07-24 17:43:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I thought that was the main problem from the start, but I might try the freezing too.
