Wacom Intuous 4.

Oh my.. Hm... certain tools have a anti-alias check box at the top of the screen when they are selected. Also, the pencil tool doesn't use anti-alias, but the brush tool does. But what I was trying to explain was something a bit different. I'll try to make a more detailed tutorial about that and other things when I have time! Sorry, it's really hard to explain like this

i've got a question. ok i see u began by making the lines, in the sketch do u clean all the inside? i mean all the lines stripes and circles? or u leave it that way and scan it like that? i was doing a sketch yesterday but i didn't know wheter to leave it clean or just as it ends. it took me about 2 hours only to make the eyes nose and mouth

Cheila In reply to Quinqui31 [2011-09-20 11:43:19 +0000 UTC]
In this case, because it was 100% digital, I used different layers, so I could simply hide the layers I didn't need anymore.
On paper, usually I make the sketch and them either scan it and ink digitally, or I use a light box to put another sheet of paper over the sketch and ink.
Another option is to use a blue pencil to do the sketch and a black pen for the inking. Some scanners will make the blue almost disappear, if not you can go to image > adjustments > replace color, choose the color you used and increase the lightness to turn it in to white and make it disappear. There are other filters and techniques that do a similar effect too. You can play with the channels, for example, but that's harder to understand how they work.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

I always just thought I couldn't draw faces that way. I guess I need to practice. Thank you for such loveliness :3 !!!!

Wow! This is so amazing! So much help! One question though.
I use a mouse. Is there a way I can still make the line art look like I have pen sencitivity or make it change sizes like it does with a tablet! I have a hard time drawing with tablets.
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
Cheila In reply to HonnuArt [2011-10-12 17:32:39 +0000 UTC]
Sorry I took so long to notice this comment! x_x
You can try to make your lineart in vectors Then you'll have a lot more control over the thickness of the line.
But it takes longer than drawing with a tablet It can lose some expression too, but at least it'll look nice and clean.

Ha ha, sorry to for hogging answers
If you have PS CS2+ (this I know for sure, unsure about earlier versions) you can use the pen tool. After you've made your 'path' you right click to draw out the path. When it gives you the prompt for brush size, etc. at the bottom there will be a check box to simulate pressure. So, in an area where there is a strong curve the line will be thicker and vice versa.
From what I understand thats the best you can do without a tablet. But I'm still a PS n00b so you might be able to find something I missed
I hope this tutorial will help explain better than I ever could >.<

Very nice tutorial!
I do have a question, though, you said that you used no anti-aliasing to help you fill the colors, how did you get it back to being anti-aliased?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Cheila In reply to Paytience [2011-07-13 13:38:59 +0000 UTC]
When you scale down an image in Photoshop, it automatically becomes anti-aliased
