The local barbershop was closed, so Roger went next door to the beauty salon instead. He did not feel completely comfortable entering such a place but it had been almost a year since his hair had last been cut. He really needed it.

The hairdresser washed his hair and then told him to sit underneath the dryer. Roger agreed thinking it was nothing out of the ordinary. As he waited for his hair to dry, Roger heard a faint noise. It sounded like someone speaking. He tried to make out the words but it was drowned out by the roar of the hair dryer.

Roger thought about how the beauty salon was intended more for girls. He did not seem to mind though. He imagined what it would be like to have his hair colored and styled in a girls style. He might actually look like a girl if he did that.

When asked how he wanted his hair done, Roger replied that he just wanted it shortened in front and thinned out. He was surprised he had just said that but as long as he was comfortable with it in the warm weather, he did not mind.

As his hair was being cut, he imagined what he would do if he was a girl. "I want it dyed pink," he said to himself. Soon afterwards he fell asleep. When he woke up, his hair actually was dyed pink. He ... or she was so shocked she let out a scream. It sounded just like a girl.

Other changes had occurred too. Roger discovered he was actually a girl. The name Roger no longer suited him. He would have to come with a new name, like Rachel. She was not sure why the name Rachel came to her so quickly, but it did.

Her hair was actually longer than it had been when she entered the salon and it was definitely pink. Rachel examined her hair closely. She was actually more concerned about her hair than she was with the sudden change of gender.

After looking over her hair, she decided that she liked it. When she got ready to pay, the hairdresser said there was no charge. Her satisfaction was payment enough. Rachel fully remembered her past as Roger but did not think anything of it. She was ready to live her new life to the fullest.
