When the local mad scientist posted a job opening, Derek was the only one foolish enough to respond to it. He thought he would be something like a lab assistant but instead it was a job at a pet store. The mad scientist warned him not to touch any of the animals knowing how difficult it would be. Derek agreed not knowing he had already become part of an experiment.

The first day went fine. He gave all the animals food and water as instructed. A few days after that, he was told to clean the cages. He was given special gloves so he would not have to touch anything organic.

After that, things became more difficult. Derek had to groom the dogs. Although he wore the gloves the entire time, dog hair fell on the floor. Hours later he noticed the dog hair, picked it up with his hands, and threw it away without really thinking about it. The mad scientist had been waiting for that moment.

Derek returned the next day without noticing dog hair was growing on his body. He was still able to do all his tasks but he was starting to forget things. His memory was not as good as it had once been.

Towards the end of the day, he looked in the mirror and finally noticed the dog hair. He also noticed some of his teeth were growing. He was also developing breasts. This was because the dog the hair belonged to was female.

Before Derek could leave, the mad scientist showed up and placed him in a cage. Derek was fairly good at following orders due to a combination of his time on the job and the dog DNA he had received. Realizing Derek was becoming female, the mad scientist renamed her Debbie. Debbie had no objections because she was only vaguely aware of her situation.

After about a week, Debbie had become fully female. Her intelligence was about halfway between that of a dog and that of a human. She was intelligent enough to follow commands but not intelligent enough to question them.

This was exactly what the mad scientist wanted. He happily scribbled away in his notebook after making sure Debbie was properly cleaned and fed. Debbie had a piece of bread hanging from her mouth. Clearly she wanted to play.

The mad scientist was too busy to play with her so he took her to a hidden room where the other half-human half-animal hybrids were located. They could play with each other.

It was time for him to post a new job opening. He wondered if anyone would be foolish enough to respond. Most likely he would find someone. It was only a matter of time.
