Words Below:

Star had been offered free virtual chat.  It even included the hypnosis feature he had heard so much about.  While virtual video games and even virtual cities grew ever more complex, virtual chats had the advantage of simplicity.

The avatars of all participants were placed in a small room, or large room if there were many people, and given a chance to talk to each other for as long as they wanted.  The rooms did not connect to each other because such a feature was not needed.  This allowed them to focus on the avatars themselves.

As with everything else, some virtual chat rooms were better than others.  One of the main factors was price.  Having been given free access to a virtual chat room, Star did not expect much but he was certainly willing to try it.  When he activated the hypnosis feature, it sent him into a deep trance in mere seconds.

This enabled the person who gave Star free access to the chat room a chance to make changes to his avatar.  A lively female programmed to serve would be best for most of the paying customers.  He just needed to make sure the deed could not be traced back to him.

Using additional hypnotic commands, he made changes to Star's personality to match the new avatar.  The avatar opened her eyes.  She, as far as Star knew anyway, had the strong desire to talk to people and do whatever they desired as long as it could not be traced back to anyone.

Star spent many hours enjoying conversations with many different people about a wide variety of subjects.  When he finally disconnected from the computer to eat and sleep, he found his personality had become more like his avatar.  This made him happy.

The next day, he was put into a deeper trance and given additional commands.  Even when he was not online, it was difficult to regain his old personality.  Over time, his memories of being anyone other than his avatar started to fade too.  Star knew he should stop using virtual chat so he could recover but he enjoyed chatting too much to do it.

The virtual hypnotist did not care what happened to Star as long as those people who paid for virtual chat rooms did not find out about it.  There was a risk that someone might find out and actually complain about it.  That. and not ethics, was why he had to be careful.
