Thank you so much this tutorial was really helpful here's my very first attempt at flash:
:thumb141529507:
I don't have a drawing pad thing so I had to make do with the mouse.
I need to ask how do you reduce the file size?
If I ever figure out how to use the programme properly I want to make an avatar but they need to be really small.

It is very expensive to buy new. Where I live anywhere from $500-$800 New Zealand dollars. Second hand can be a good alternative. The program is Adobe Flash (older versions may be called Macromedia Flash, as Macromedia was purchased by Adobe a few years ago).
I had access to this program through my course. You can try some free alternatives by looking up '2D animation software' or 'free 2D animation software' on Google. I'm investigating on my own slowly. Dogwaffle is looking good at the moment.

Can i buy Flash from the store? Or i can only buy it on the internet. How much does it cost?
π: 0 β©: 1
creatureart In reply to SkyDiamond123 [2009-09-19 10:07:53 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I've never had to buy it as the course I've been doing at offers workstations where I access an educational version.
I live in New Zealand and see you live in... Romania. I'd buy it at my country's online trading site. You probably want to search the Adobe website to see if you can buy it there or where they stock it closer to where you live.
Newest version costs $800 New Zealand dollars or so. To get it cheaper, look for a second hand copy somewhere or try buying a student copy (cheaper, but you're prohibited from making money with it).

I'm looking to learn animation and stuff when I get out of high school. What kind of classes do you take?
π: 0 β©: 1
creatureart In reply to VampireSelene13 [2009-09-21 01:24:45 +0000 UTC]
I'd recommend not going down my route if you want to do animation. I started off studying mass media, then moved into a digital media. If you want to get a job in animation take a specialised course that has a focus on practical rather than theory. You get hired for your showreel in the animation industry.
Classes are different everywhere and I'm studying 3D animation. All my 2D is self-taught through internet tutorials and experimentation. That's the route I'd recommend if you're doing it for fun.

I feel stupid for asking, but is this Adobe Flash, or is this a different Flash program? Your tutorial looks amazing and easy to follow, but I'm beginning to think we're using different programs and I'm going to be having serious problems.

creatureart In reply to Haywire-Hakaze [2009-09-03 03:20:05 +0000 UTC]
Flash, but an older version of the program. The interface is probably going to look a bit different if you have the latest version as I wrote this... what, two or more years ago now? Something like that.
You might be able to find a more recent tutorial if that's helpful. Youtube can have some good video walkthroughs for different things.

My college computer has CS3 and CS4, but the CS4 tutorials show the dropdown menus and-- for some reason-- the school's registered version doesn't have it. Strange... So I'm trying to use CS3.

Best of luck! The frequency of new versions being released frustrates me somewhat - there often seems little new features besides an interface to justify it.

ooooh! this will be helpful! i'm just trying out flash myself, so far it's just random stuff like how to blink and other things...i'm still practicing that tho anyho! since you seem to know how to use flash, i do have a question....maybe others but i'll go with this one first, you see, i'm trying to make an avatar using flash so that i can use here but i don't know how to adjust the size of the page i'm working on..is there a way to do that or is there a different way of doing it?
