No... then I'd just get upset. I didn't watch a lot of FIM after Season 4 and began drifting away from that and watched other shows... that are for girls. I guess the long wait caused it.
It led me to think a lot about the show and it made me like the show less. It was the high amount of fan service; why does FIM use it; a girl show can still be fantastic without it? Look at Sailor Moon, its huge, yet not much fan... well, the localized one.

Ah I see, it's hard to say if the fan-service/pop culture references has became more profound as of late. They were always there, all way back in the first season.
Then again it's each things has it's pro and con, nothing is perfect, and each show has it's good and bad sides

Fan service is fine, but this shiw has so much of it. It can get overwhelming,and the 100th episode is the breaking point. This show doesn't need fan service... Well, none at this level.

I think there are episodes prone to references more than others. Make new friends but keep Discord had lots of them thanks to the permise and Discord's character, on the other hand Appleloosa's most wanted? not so much.

But yeah. If the FIM crew was to make this special, wouldn't this have something completely new and groundbreaking? I mean, you can have something groundbreaking for the show, yet still appeal to the fans without doing... all of this fan service. I mean, why would they waste a milestone in their FIM run with a plot that is not even close to special? The animation is not even special, but it doesn't really have to be. There really is nothing special to this episode, so... aside from a majority of the Bronies, who is going to remember the episode or care about it?Β
If it was like "G1 designs" or "new species of Ponies discovered" or "humans arrive in Equestria," would you care about that more than a wedding plot? The background ponies can still play a role (G1 and G3 proved that can be possible), but wouldn't a... more grand scale or innovative (for the show) plot make it special and memorable?

It's DERPY. Β I hate it with a burning passion when people try to call her otherwise. Β Ditzy wasn't even originally meant for the pony who ended up being Derpy Hooves. Β Lauren Faust confirmed it to me in a Q&A on Twitter.

Actually, they made her Muffins.
Originally, she was Ditzy Doo (season 1, winter wrap up). I mean, yeah, Lauren said it wasn't meant for our Muffins to be Ditzy, but then the writing team said fuck it. Is her word against the word of the rest of the team. Anything is better than muffins, if you ask me.
They went with Derpy at last round up (season 2, episode... 14?) if my memory doesn't fail me (and then soccer moms).
Either way, this episode was awful.

No, Lauren confirmed to me that Ditzy was a name for a different pony at the time and not even connected to Derpy, so saying she originally was isn't accurate, especially if you are admitting Lauren didn't mean for it to be Derpy. Β Also, don't ever call her Muffins to me. Β I'm highly offended at the censorship with her for many personal reasons. Β Her name is Derpy, we fans named her as such, she had that name in the original version of The Last Roundup, and as someone with disabilities myself, I'm extremely offended that they censored her and how they edited Rainbow to being more "Treat her Special" about it.

There was a way you could fit the fan service into the plot... anything could work if time and effort is put into it, but it's like they just put in something to ONLY please the fans... a plot related to Season 5, yet still please the fans, could have been fantastic.

The ideal would have been good plot + fanservice, unfortunately we got only fanservice... and the shittiest fanservice they could come up with xD
