... I have no idea what just wrote. Whatever it was, it was a retort. So I'll be the bigger man/woman here and just end it here. Have fun wasting your life and time arguing with people over the internet, defending ponies an what not.
Though for some reason, I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of it.

If you think the show was 'just meant for little girls', than why did you even care about it at all?

It's totally natural to move on to enjoy other things once we get tired of one particular thing or another.

Agreed. MLP had a good run, but Steven Universe is kinda taking it's place IMO.

Wow~! An opinion of yours that I ACTUALLY agree with! Quite a Rarity. ^.^ A very excellent season premiere with great writing, humor, and characterization of the village ponies, considering all they have went through.Β

I went into this premier expecting a decent, probably pretty good episode. What I got has to now be one of my top five favourite episodes (when taking both parts as one). I'm serious when I say that; this was a fantastic opening story, from the general message, the secondary characters being the ones to pretty much save the day, (as opposed to Twilight and the daily McGuffin), and a great villain, Starlight Glimmer, who near enough unseats Chrysalis as my new fav villain.
I love Starlight for pretty much all the reasons you listed: she's not an ancient evil, but a fellow pony, making her more relatable in how menacing she is. She's not all-powerful, but she's so manipulative and conniving it's almost impossible not to admire her.
If anything, her villainous breakdown, or rather THIS scene in particularly won me over:Β
Twilight: "Everypony has unique talents and gifts, and when we share them with each other, that's how reaβ"Β
Starlight: (vein-poppingly furious) "QUIET!!!"Β
(Twilight and co stare in flabbergasted silence)
Also, regarding to your thoughts on the series as a whole, well, again... you do make a good point. You can basically say the same thing for almost all shows and their fandoms, which go through their highs and lows in quality and popularity. I mean, is MLP ever gonna reach the same height of popularity and greatness as it did a year or so ago? Probably not. And you can make the good argument that its best years are behind it. But you know what? Drawing on what you said, if the writers can produce a great episode like this in its FIFTH SEASON, then I don't think we have too much to worry about.
It also makes me think about something I wrote on one of your previous journals: that as long as the writers can still come up with good ideas and execute them well like these episodes right here, I encourage them to keep going and I'll keep on watching. Even after it ends (with the inevitable G5 to follow (c'mon, Hasbro would be stupid not to)), the show and its fandom have had such an impact on me I'll always consider myself a Brony.
But hey, that's just me.

Interesting and fair analysis. This opening to the season did pit the main cast against an antagonist who was far more about manipulation than raw power. Something that they actually don't encounter much while defending the world from power-hungry centaurs and shape-shifting insect-horse queens. And I must applaud the writers for taking a different route in that regard. The best part about Starlight Glimmer is that her motivation can be debated with her only flaw being "obvious villain is obvious" about it by forcing her ideals on others. Perhaps a smidgen of subtly would have made these episodes better rather than making the citizens of the village out as blatantly brainwashed cult members right from the start. Other than that, I felt that Starlight didn't leave much of an impact, I even managed to forget her name as I was writing this and had to look it up. With season openers featuring such villains as Nightmare Moon and Discord, it is hard for a character who's just a unicorn to live up to those standards. By the way, am I the only one noticing the naming theme with unicorns of above average magical power? Twilight Sparkle, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer? I assume that Princess Sunny-Bun's full name might be something like "Celestia Radiance" just for the sake of consistency.

I just realized something too that sort of shuts down much of my critique in that the show seems to have knowingly acknowledged it. In the beginning of the episodes, Rainbow Dash was pumped up to fight some scarey powerful monsters. Her disappointment being the gag. It's like the writers are telling us "Yep, season 4 finale was dragon balls to the wall crazy and you're probably expecting something to top that, but just sit back and enjoy the show anyways."

Does a socialist cult commune in the wilderness with a control-obsessed leader who plays sermons/propaganda over loudspeakers during the night sound familiar?

Also, the parallels to season 1 of Legend of Korra are pretty obvious. Right down to both villains being exposed by not using water-resistant makeup.

The issue I had with the episode is that, the episode itself was much more adult oriented than anything else we have seen. It's not a problem for me, I did enjoy the episode, but makes one wonder if Hasbro and Dhx have already decided that there is a bigger audience for the show in young adults than in little kids. Is that why the show is no longer on the Hub?

Again. I have to say, the show has not been going downhill. It has been going UPhill since season 4. Season 1 I would say is the worst one, because the plots were not as good as these newer ones. THis is pretty much the reverse Spongebob. Season 4 only had 2 bad episodes "Somepony to Watch Over Me" (AJ was beyond annoying, and is the worst episode in the show) and Twilight Time (for being so boring), but the only 'meh' are: Simple Ways, Three's A Crowd, It Ain't Easy Being Breezies, and Princess Twilight Sparkle. The others are among the shows best. Season 5 so far seems to be just as good as season 4, which is currently the best.

From Legend of Korra.
A villain that can take peoples bending (kung-fu magic) away to make everyone equal.
His cult broke down when it was revealed he was actually a bender.

I really didn't enjoy this joint episode.Β
Everything just felt like it was weirdly paced, and the villain sort of just runs off, like the Rainboom villains, they just walk off and it didn't feel they concluded the ending in my eyes.Β
I really didn't enjoy it.
I don't think I will continue watching MLP any more, it has grown out of me now.Β

Thinking about it, the whole idea of reforming an immortal god of chaos by giving him a mortal friend is pretty irritating to begin with.
