'While our employees are welcome to pursue their hobbies, we contractually ask that they not engage in any business in their public-facing life that could damage the company's image and violate company policy.'

Maybe so!

What the hell, man? If she's doing this in her free time, what right does her employer have to fire her? I smell a big fat lawsuit coming, and I hope she wipes the floor with their asses. It's called free will, and the last time i checked, you could still do this in America.

We may have free will, but that doesn't mean our actions don't have consequences.

Totally agree with that, but the company needs to know that as well.

I suppose this person's actions could be construed as being the values of the company they represent if they are in a visible, public-facing position within the company.

Hmm, you have a point, but I still say this violates her right to freedom of expression. Personally, I think it puts both her and the company in a bad light, but on a legal basis, she does indeed have grounds for a lawsuit and I feel she will press on with it.

Cuddlepug In reply to EnforcerWolf [2016-08-07 19:33:52 +0000 UTC]

Freedom of expression realistically only goes so far, though - if you work for a company and post all over Facebook and the like that you think it's a shit place, why wouldn't an employer have reason to want to fire you?

EnforcerWolf In reply to Cuddlepug [2016-08-07 20:15:04 +0000 UTC]

I get what you are saying, and I agree--if that was actually the case. Nowhere in this post does it day she was badmouthing the company. It said she was terminated for operating an porn website. You are trying to compare apples to oranges here, and I don't see that applying. I respect your opinion, but mine is just as valid.

If she wants to keep an MLP porn blog, go ahead (since it's called free will). But as for me, leave me out of it whether or not she gets fired. Also, what was her position anyway?

Cuddlepug In reply to OtakuNintendoNerd [2016-08-07 19:19:43 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, but I can speculate as to some of the positions illustrated on their blog.

Maybe it's for the best just so it wouldn't spread to children at some random point while the show lasts. (Off subject comment: TCBtP is now a part of my Top 20 worst episodes category...shockingly now that I think more clearly about how stupid it seems at times)

i have a feeling a ton of people are going to be like WTF NOOO
but like
mostly this is a company policy thats why your bosses search your facebook
what you do online represents the company
its like if your boss caught you sayin somethin really bad theyd probably fire you because thats not what the company stands for
unless it does idk

but really i dont blame her for drawing what she wants to draw
she just shouldve been a lot more careful

Cuddlepug In reply to BuyGoldBYE [2016-08-07 19:19:04 +0000 UTC]

I think you're right that with the advent of social media companies are more interested in what visible employees are saying as it could be construed as being the position of the company.

BuyGoldBYE In reply to Cuddlepug [2016-08-08 00:26:09 +0000 UTC]

ya i think that they meant well when they fired her but
i still think she deserves some money out of it saying its kind of a wrong way to go yknow??

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

EnforcerWolf In reply to BuyGoldBYE [2016-08-07 19:16:31 +0000 UTC]

I tend to disagree with that. As an employee at her job? Sure, I can see her being proper in her dealings as a representative of that particular company. But as a private citizen? They do not have one flippin' iota of a right to dictate how she spends her free time. Thee will be a lawsuit out of this. And while I can't say what the outcome would be, it would not surprise me if the company has to shell out big bucks for wrongful termination.

BuyGoldBYE In reply to EnforcerWolf [2016-08-08 00:23:48 +0000 UTC]

well youre name is now part of the company, and that makes you represent
if someone googled her name and found that do you think theyd want their kid involved with the company at all
i dont think so

im not saying i support companies decisions on this im just saying i see why she got fired
i think she shouldve kept it more private or not put her name on things

yeah i hope she gets some money out of it i think thats a bit of a strange way to get fired

I can see both sides. But I feel she was wronged.

BuyGoldBYE In reply to EnforcerWolf [2016-08-08 00:30:13 +0000 UTC]

i see both sides but i think i can side with the company more
because i see what she couldve done better
but i dont blame her for doing what she wants to do she just shoulve been more careful about where its seen

I hope those are tears of joy, not sadness or melancholy!

Do you think employers should have the right to fire employees in this situation?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CinnamonSparx In reply to Cuddlepug [2016-08-07 19:41:21 +0000 UTC]

Tears of bliss, but you were close !

I'm not really a big fan of the person in question having to stop or lessen enjoyment of what she does in her free time, because that's her choice, and she should do as she pleases, as long as she's not hurting other people, I think she has the right to do as she wants.

Although I can see the other side of things. She was terminated because she drew porn of the television show she works for, which is targeted at a younger audience. I can see why they'd want to terminate her, but I think if the company views what she does in a negative light, they should have asked her to keep it low-profile, or at worst, close it down, not terminate her on the spot. She didn't technically commit a crime or anything (unless she's drawing under aged stuff I suppose, but I don't think that's the case) so I don't really see the termination approach as fair.

I'm not sure she works for a television show - only the entertainment industry. But you make a good point, friend of mine :@)

JustKertu In reply to ??? [2016-08-07 18:56:43 +0000 UTC]

I think it's not fair, what people do in their personal life doesn't really matter.  And I dont think having a blog for pornography of characters is very bad.

Cuddlepug In reply to JustKertu [2016-08-07 18:57:57 +0000 UTC]

Would you say it's an issue if you're working for a publicly-facing children's company?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JustKertu In reply to Cuddlepug [2016-08-07 19:00:41 +0000 UTC]

But, how would it affect it? I mean I probably know nothing much on how much it would affect it, but I wouldn't fire that person.
But, then again I could be wrong.

Cuddlepug In reply to JustKertu [2016-08-07 19:17:19 +0000 UTC]

I suppose if a client is unhappy that someone from a child-friendly company is doing something not friendly to children it could jeopardise business.
