Description
A quick tutorial for PaintTool SAI, explaining the various line-art tools and how to use them
Needed: Paint Tool SAI. Tablet is optional, as you'll only need it for the Pen tool.

It is a .zip file of all my brush settings, textures, blank do-it-yourself resources, instructions for creating custom content, and associated start-sai.exe file that lets you register these files to your SAI without editing the .conf files manually :3 All in one convenient place. All of my current brush settings have been updated to match the files in the .zip file, and contain image examples for each. Be sure to read the README's! If you like it, then drop me a +fav on this deviation

yes, it is actually very rare, I cant find a simple one that 'll sink to the non genious leval.

you're very welcome XD sai takes some getting used to, but once you do, you'll never want to use another art program XD I used to use only photoshop and now I hardly touch it.. i can't imagine going back to doing art in any other program o.o it's spiffical!

Yeah, it's has taken some getting used to. I'd mostly been using GIMP for everything along with MyPaint, but now that I've got SAI I've been using that with MyPaint.

Some trouble with the files that I downloaded for textures and stuff.
The textures(Papertexs?) did the job itself, but all the other files didn`t show up. I read the README thing, and saw the Start exe thing, but when I tried it it wouldnt do anything. So I`m kinda confused about what to do about that now, I really wanted your brushes and other things D:

make sure the start-sai.exe is in your main directory or it won't work :3 other than that.. i'm not sure o.o most people never have a problem with it D: what version is your SAI? maybe it's not compatible

How do i find version? I can`t find it in the program itself. . .

Under the last menu option, and the last on that list (Others->Version Info) it should have the version number. if it's not listed you might (and im not accusing!) have a pirated copy. for the start-sai.exe, it needs to go into your primary directory for sai. so C:/program files/sai/ (or whatever your files are called XD) in the same folder as the sai.exe

XD yes, the start.exe comes with the program itself, it's the start-sai.exe that you need to put into that same folder and run XD (there's a read me in one of the folders of the zip file that i have for download that tells you what folder all the files go in

I think Ive misunderstod something, I`ve moved all the files according to their names and stuff, and I`ve started the program with the start-sai.exe thing, but I still can`t find the brushes and other things, only the papertexs :/

XD lots of people have this problem - you'd be surprised how often I get messaged with the exact same thing. 1) double check that your textures are all in the correct folders. 2) make sure you don't have more than 99 textures in any of your folders (that's the max SAI can handle) past that, it won't load new ones. 3)brushes themselves have to be entered manually into the program using the screencaped information I provided - they won't automatically show up XD. If everything's entered correctly your paper textures should show in your menu labeled with a "pt", your brush shapes should have "pt", and your brush textures should have "bltmp" AND "em" (these endings tell you what folder they went into : paper textures

XD there's a folder in my zip file labeled custom brushes or something similar (i cant remember) if you open it, it'll have screencaptures of all the brush settings I use

XD go to the lil menu box where the brushes sit, right click a sqare, create a new brush type

I still like photoshop for coloring since i'm use to it, but i'll try coloring with SAI too. X3

XD i used to color in photoshop, but i find it doesn't recognize my tablet properly -____- so it's increasingly difficult to paint in the manner i want to :/ but blending and pressure is far more sensitive in sai

yes you do XD make a new line art layer (different from other layers) you'll see all the new lineart-related tools show up int he menu

Okay, I'd really like to give the Curve Tool a try, but the trial version of the program I have doesn't have a lot of the brushes, including the Curve. If I manage to get the full program, will the Curve Tool be included there??

it should be there even on the trial - but remember to get to the lineart tools you have to create a vector lineart layer.. all the tools won't show until you have the right layer type :3
