er.. winrar is a program used to unpack a compressed (.rar) file.. having the winrar program expire has no bearing on SAI at all. i think what you mean is what happens when the sai program itself's trial expires. in which case you must actually buy the sai program to continue to use it legally. if your winrar expires and you can't unpack the .rar file, just download a different unpacking program like 7zip.

I have the full version of SAI, but to open it (to draw on and such) I need to go to my Winrar file and open something called "Portable SAI"
Wondering if I can make a shortcut to it that is out of the WinRAR file so when it expires I'll still have it.

you should be able to right click the .rar and hit "Extract Files..." to extract the archive into it's own folder so you never have to use winrar on it again ^^

if your sai expires the trial, can you uninstall then reinstall to use again

there are ways to get around the trial (like editing the registry - but that's extremely dangerous.. don't do it) but the short answer is no, once the trial is over, to proceed LEGALLY, you have to buy the program.

If I download the 4o day trial for WinRAR, will SAI end the day of the exipred date of RAR?

This is AWESOME!!! I love this tutorial!! though the link is it the trail one or is it the full one?

DarlingMionette In reply to Kawaiikitsune-hime13 [2011-01-31 01:01:20 +0000 UTC]

er neither? sort of. it'll give you the trial if you dont have it, but if you have the trial or full version, it'll just patch it to english XD. it also comes with the handy start-sai.exe file that registers new textures/brushes for you so you dont have to manually edit the .conf files

DarlingMionette In reply to Kawaiikitsune-hime13 [2011-01-31 01:27:13 +0000 UTC]

well, yes, there are ways to get it without paying, but i can't condone piracy :3 on the upside, the full program costs only $56 or so converted from yen, and there's a 31 day free trial. I do recommend sai, i started using it, and haven't gone back to photoshop since XD

I have one little question lol.
I've got SAI, but for some reason it seem like I don't have most of the tools of what you've just shown
this is what I've got [link]
would you be able to help ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to LottieArty [2011-01-22 02:40:11 +0000 UTC]

to get to the lineart tools though you need to create a lineart layer. (not a normal one) then the tools will show. on the left hand side right above the layers, there's a button that looks like a piece of paper, and beside that, a paper with a pen on it.. the pen one is to create the lineart layer and will unlock those specific tools for you

Moro-moro In reply to ??? [2011-01-12 20:24:29 +0000 UTC]

I want to start off to say I loved your CG tutorials, and that I have a question--

I stopped using the ink layer in SAI because the curved lines looked too pixeled and not smoothed when I zoomed out to 100%, are my settings to blame? (Is my canvas resolution off or something?) @^@

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Moro-moro [2011-01-13 15:31:47 +0000 UTC]

check your dpi and make sure it's at least 300. i use the sai line layer and i cant say i've ever had a problem with pixelation.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Moro-moro In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-01-13 17:16:44 +0000 UTC]

Okay... O_______O
And... I do this how? XD I've gotten as far as "Change Resolution".
(It might be the thickness, I think; the pen on the regular layer does it to me too when I use it to detail. If the canvas is small, and I have it on .5)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarlingMionette In reply to Moro-moro [2011-01-13 17:38:32 +0000 UTC]

sai doesn't label it correctly, but on the "change resolution" screen, go down till you see: Resolution: [ ] [Pixels/Inch]

something like that XD by default it's 72, i try not to work with less than 300. And you're right about the thickness making a difference. If you're working really zoomed in and doing 0.7 or 1.0 line thickness on a HUGE image, when you zoom back out, it's going to look quite odd. I like to pick my line size while viewing at 100% so I know what'll look good when I'm all done, not just when I'm zoomed in on most pictures my line size is around 1-3 px depending on if i'm going to shrink the picture when i'm done or not ^^

Moro-moro In reply to DarlingMionette [2011-01-13 18:48:36 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for making this Mionette... you don't know just how helpfull it was for me. Since I've downloaded this software yesterday I've been scratching my head on how to do these line-art.

But it seems I still have one problem. Once I scan drawings into my PC; Open them in Sai and finish my lineart with the button you enlightened[Having access to Curve, Weight etc.], I then don't know how to get rid of the sketch I scanned.

If it's already explained in the above tutorial, then please forgive me for being this clueless, english isn't my native language.

SAI won't allow me to color my images as long as the scanned elements are still present in the image. Please help me.

DarlingMionette In reply to AdamantDragon [2010-12-29 22:11:00 +0000 UTC]

XD you are very welcome! to get rid of the scanned version of your lines, you just need to delete the layer, just select the layer and hit the trashcan icon near the new layer buttons.
