Description
The sole worksafe piece of art in this, the final chapter of part 2 of our epic Dirk/Kanaya romance fic that I can post here, it's nevertheless one which I'm very proud of my contributions to. As always, pencils by my good friend and collaborator, Kenji, whose gallery can and should be viewed here: kenjisartdump.deviantart.com/Those interested in checking out the rest of the work would be well-advised to check out the URL at the bottom right of the image up there. Fair warning: There's a fair bit of NSFW content, so don't say I didn't warn you!
Also, I can't suggest strongly enough you check out the image in full resolution; scaled-down versions simply don't do this baby justice.
And now, a brief sampling of the chapter in question, for inquisitive minds:

A Space for my Heart
Part 2
Chapter 10
Ship in a Bottle

Atop Dirk's flyboard, the scenery flew past the two in as rapid a jumble of images as that which was playing across Kanaya's mind's eye.
The feel of Roxy's lips. The satisfying slap of her hand across the blonde girl's face. The look of bewildered affront on Dirk's face. The look which had passed between Dirk and Roxy in that last moment, and whatever hidden, inscrutably human meaning might have been contained within it. Feelings of hatred, betrayal, love, arousal. It kept playing itself over and over again, and beneath it all was the question she kept on asking herself: What in the world was I thinking?
"So," Dirk said, his voice half-lost in the whipping wind all about them as they flew. And as he did so, she realized with a twinge of pain that it was the first thing either of them had said since they had left Roxy's hive, "am I going to be the first one to talk about it or are you?"
She was so at a loss as to what she might say, her thoughts so disordered and confused, that she wasn't sure she preferred either option. "Would you react favourably if I were to ironically feign ignorance as to what you were referring to," she asked, forcing a half-smile which quickly died on her lips as she realized that he wasn't looking at her as he spoke.
"Under other circumstances I'd be so impressed by that level of ironic detachment that I’d offer you an anachronistically enthusiastic 'gimme five' as a sign of endorsement. But you know." He gave the slightest shrug of his shoulders. "Fuck it. I kind of think this is one of those moments where some open and honest communication is what’s needed."
The words stung, though she was fairly certain he hadn't intended for them as a critique of her in particular. After all, his own romantic past was as fraught with bad decisions where communication was involved as hers had been. And he wasn't wrong. She just wasn't sure where to begin. And so she just said the first thing that came to mind and hoped for the best. "I did not know I was going to do that when I departed. I had no specific plan. I certainly did not intend that eventual outcome. Not..." not consciously, she thought to herself. Not in a way that she had allowed herself to articulate so clearly. So explicitly. "Not at all. But when I arrived, she was simply so... outlandishly aggravating." She shook her head in a moment of awed silence at the strength of her reaction to the encounter. "I... simply gave in to my baser urges."
"Yeah," Dirk said, plainly working to keep his voice level. "When I get pissed-off with things I kiss them a lot too. Sloppy makeouts with tough skeleton bosses was kind of my kryptonite these past couple of months. Before that it was broken machines and Monday mornings getting my slobber all over them."

Well I mean if that's the case then I feel like I wasted my time with all that descriptive text up top there!
Seriously, though, thanks for the kind words. I suggest you check out the rest of the art in my gallery relating to this project and maybe the blog itself for more. We work our butts off to keep this quality of work up.
