Things take a turn for the weird in this week's instalment of A Space for my Heart; our sweeping Dirk/Kanaya romance fic, as Kanaya's furiously hate-filled feud with Roxy over Dirk's heart takes a decidedly awkward twist.

Chapter 9
Face to Face at Last

As Kanaya burst through the window of Roxy’s home, a number of things happened in very swift succession.
Fragments of glass ricocheted all about the interior of Roxy’s hive, to no very great effect but considerable calamity. Mutant cats scattered from the block, treacherously abandoning their owner in her moment of greatest need. Roxy – who Kanaya noticed with disgust was dressed in naught but her undergarments and a light shirt – stood quickly but unsteadily from her stool. Holding up one hand, finger upraised in a ‘wait a second’ gesture, she expertly quaffed the remainder of the alcoholic fluid in the wineglass she had been holding before disdainfully tossing it aside to take its place in the menagerie of broken glass at her feet. Roxy’s friend, whose name eluded Kanaya at the moment but whose wriggling day celebration she had attended, also stood, apparently the more sober but less composed of the two, scrambling back a few steps, wide-eyed with alarm at the sudden intrusion.
“Roxy!” Kanaya stood atop the flyboard, hovering imperiously just above the blonde girl’s head, looking down upon her foe and target, fingers tight upon her chainsaw and mouth practically salivating for the confrontation to come.
“Papaya!” Roxy slurred, a crimson rifle appearing in her hands with the flick of her wrist.
“Kanaya!” she shouted, a stab of fury lancing through her think-pan at the sound of Roxy’s voice.
“What?” Roxy shouted back.
“Kanaya!” Kanaya shouted back-back.
“No, I heard you, I just don’t know what you’re saying, lol!”
