Description
A new and ongoing collaboration between myself and my friend and frequent collaborator, KenjisArtDump .A work of fiction, each chapter of which will include a minimum of one full-colour illustration of at least the quality found in this one. Many, if not most of which, will be NSFW.

Welcome to A Space for my Heart: A Confidently Heterosexual romance. This is a collaboration between myself, Dave Littler (YouTube , LJ ), and the proud but mysteriously anonymous proprietor of Kenjisartdump, on DA and Tumblr. In large part, I’m doing the writing, with frequent creative imput and collaboration on his part, and he’s providing the lineart, with my colours and visual effects.
Each thursday will see a new chapter in this saga of love and romance between Homestuck’s One True OTP; Dirk Strider and Kanaya Maryam. In addition to the actual text of the story, each week will see a minimum of one full-colour illustration of at least the quality of the title page seen here. Many - perhaps even the majority - of which will be NSFW, as indeed will be much of the story itself, and so we strongly suggest that you quit your jobs so as to save yourself from the eventual pain and humiliation of being fired. Be the master of your own fate, aside from the sense in which you do something other than what we’re telling you to.
The events of the story diverge from those of Homestuck at this page , as that is where the story was when we began work on it. We would therefore suggest and insist that you adjust your headcanon in such a way as that anything following that page in Homestuck proper is a doomed timeline, and this fic is canon proper from this point forward.
Feel free to ask us anything. We may or may not answer, depending upon whether or not we feel that doing so would be entertaining or informative. Mostly the former.
And beyond that? Enjoy.

Rosemary is my OTP, and I like DirkJake (though that ship's pretty much sunk) and I've never considered Kanaya x Dirk before, but it sounds really interesting. ouo

Well, the prologue chapter goes up about this time tomorrow, along with some artwork which I'm really proud of (and which DA's submission policy with respect to explicit content will never allow me to post). I invite your thoughts on both once they're up!

Well, it's just a little bit loose right now. I'm writing chapter 4 at this point and it's 25 written pages. I'm envisioning it as a trilogy, with probably 7 chapters for each part (and lots of art for each chapter). We'll see as it shapes up!

Then it seems fairly likely that you're going to find at least CERTAIN elements of this story to be somewhat less than completely satisfying.
Unless the thing you luv about it is Dirk's obvious unhappiness and dissatisfaction with Jake, in which case, you might really dig it!

Well I'm sorry to say I haven't been following it. When I first went to the story I was excited though as I looked around I found it wasn't really what I was looking for. I looked at some of the chapter pics I'm guessing? And it kinda freaked me out. I normally stay away from "that" kind of stuff. Though I wish you luck in the progress of your story. It's just not my cup of tea

Well, search the various tags on the blog there (Dirkanaya, Dirkan, I just had a social justice aneurysm, etc) and you'll find a BIT more art of them.
But by the time this project is done, I think that the art we'll have produced of it will literally form the majority of what exists.
You're quite right, though; these two wardrobifier-clad kids are great together. I do not call them the "One True OTP" for a reason.

I've gotta say this is odd in my opinion. Granted my OTP is Rosemary, however I don't quite see this pairing happening.
I mean, besides the fact that they have never met/talked to each other so we have no idea how they feel about each other. These are two of the few characters in this series that have evidenced an attraction to a single gender. Especially since Dirk was the pursuer of his relationship.
Not that you don't have a right to you're OTP, but I just don't see it myself.

Characterization-wise, I think you'll soon see how very well they fit together. And just because they've only evidenced attraction to the same gender so far? They both grew up in complete social and geographical isolation, without the benefit of experience with the opposite gender as anything but words typed on a screen. Sexuality can be a fluid thing, especially for a teenager. A process of discovery. And in one another, they're about to discover something they've never discovered before.

This is true however Dirk would have had face to face contact with the opposite gender during his entire session of the game,while Kanaya had contact with members of the opposite genders of her own race along with the humans for nearly three years. Not to mention that thus far the males she has been in touch with have been phychotic, Gamzee and Eriden respectively holding the largest body counts of named characters outside of Lord English.
This is of coursed bypassed if you have the Alphas meet up with the meteor kids sooner, however as Rose is already with Kanaya in this image I'm guessing not.
Lastly I must point out that the two of them don't really have the same interests. I don't see Dirk hyper into fashion or sewing, or Kanaya being obsessed with Anime.
Although I concede that I could see them as Black Flushed, however I don't think that is your intention at this time.

Dirk had face to face contact with members of the opposite gender at a time when he was, shall we say, "off the market". Some people are just naturally monogamous. I know that for my own sake, whenever I'm with someone - even, as has been the case in the past, in an dreadfully unhappy relationship - I'm just not interested in anyone else. Even people who I might otherwise be inclined towards. I see Dirk as being that sort of person; even in a miserable trainwreck of a relationship like his with Jake turned out to be, I think he wouldn't be thinking of what else is out there.
As for Kanaya, yes, she met guys during the course of her session, but most of them were already in romantic relationships at the time (Karkat/Terezi, Equius/Aradia, Sollux/Feferi), or else creeps, weirdos or wimps that just wouldn't grab her attention. Even after the session, her exposure to guys was limited to Dave (who was with Terezi) and Karkat, whose relationship with Kanaya was something quite other than sexually-charged. In other words, there was just never a point where the right guy was there and available.
This fic presents us with an exploration of what might transpire if that circumstance were to change.

Okay that's fair for Dirk. Though even till the end he seemed to be the pursuer to keep their relationship alive. And even after it was distinctly over Dirk explains how little interest he has in Roxy and Jane in the crypts.
As for Kanaya, I think you are seriously overestimating the effects of someone meeting face to face. Or underestimating the relationships built through messaging.
All of these characters built most, if not all their relationships through the internet. Equius and Nepeta built a stable relationship that kept both of them the most stable of the trolls through their session. I think meeting face to face can start a spark that can explode into something more, but only if the gunpowder was there to begin with. I didn't think that her feelings for Vriska and Rose were just Class S relationship [link]
I'll reserve judgment on this ship until I see some interaction between the two of them but I just don't see them seeing each other in this fashion.

So! Now that four chapters are up, and there's some interaction on display, I wish to revisit this conversational thread. Perhaps you might be interested in perusing them and offering an opinion?

Dirk was doing the pursuing precisely because he needed to be in order for there even to appear to be any relationship at all. I've had past relationships where I've taken to trying FAR harder in proportion to the extent that my partner has ceased to care, just to make up the difference. Even knowing the relationship was crap, that I was completely unhappy in it and I was fighting for something that neither of us wanted. And I know I'm not alone in that sort of absurd end-of-relationship nonsense.
And yes, Dirk had no interest in Roxy, but that's just Roxy. She's more like a spunky little sister to him. It's no surprise that the drive just wasn't there. A dude like Dirk needs someone a bit classier and level-headed (like Kanaya), not the drunken spazz that Roxy was for virtually the entirety of his acquaintance with Mz. Lalonde.
I would characterize Kanaya's relationship with Rose as less a Class S relationship as an Omega-3 Double-Polygon Class relationship; one which begins with fireworks, but flares out soon thereafter as the initial passion is unsustainable, becoming something suffocating and smothering for both parties.

Well, chapter 4 (today's release) is 5265 words. They seem to be getting longer with each passing week! I think I need to set myself a maximum length, or this is going to become absurd before too long.
