July 16, 2012 Prompt: Reaper Butt

This is my first gif file ever, so I hope you'll excuse the choppiness of the animation. But I had a lot of fun learning and working on this piece of silliness so I hope you enjoy it, too!

This was originally going to be a five-panel comic, which was already something new and different for me. In fact, I already had all of the lineart and main color finished for those panels when I got into a discussion with Gin-kyo about animating. I said I had no idea how people made gif files, so she did a join.me session to show me how to make them through Photoshop. When I mentioned I had a comic that might work good as a gif, she said I ought to try it out, so I put all the panels together and Gyo and I got hysterical over the silliness.

And so this became a gif.

I was planning on making the comic version in addition to this, but now it works so well as a gif, I can't even see how to do it as a comic anymore!

For a first gif file, I was totally stupid and made it way more complicated than it needed to be. I really wanted Kid's ranting commentary in the background to be on-going, though, rather than stationary, so I bit the bullet (as it were) and set out to make each necissary frame.

This gif has a total of 136 individual frames. (Which is actually nice, since 136 is divisible by 8, haha.)

It took me quite a while to get Photoshop to do what I wanted, but in the end, it all worked out. (My poor hard drive. It's so full now.) Funny story, though: I was already into the animation process when I realized I, of all people, had forgotten to give Kid his Sanzu Lines. Go figure.

I also shamelessly stole borrowed Xero's line about "it's a good butt." Because that line is what this prompt is all about. Hope you don't mind, Xero! :I
