Description March 13, 2012 Prompt: Favorite Customer

When Soul Eater NOT! first premiered, I was extremely skeptical. I mean, really, Ohkubo, writing a shoujo-esque spin-off series while you're still writing the original shonen series? Don't you think you're stretching yourself a little thin? I could write a whole commentary on what I think about NOT!, but I'll restrain myself and just say that, due to some of the retcon Ohkubo introduced, I had decided to dismiss NOT! as non-canonical in my headcanon.

And then he introduced Liz, Patty, and Kid in Chapters 10 and 11.

I'll admit, I wasn't even sold on the new addition to the Thompsons' backstory until 11, when I was able to find out the result of the fight between them and the new girls. I swear to Shinigami, Ohkubo, if you had let Liz and Patty get beaten by those noobs... Luckily, what these chapters gave us was exactly what we wanted: more badass screentime with Brooklyn!Liz and Patty, some interesting insight into their transition from their street days to where they are today, and a beautifully bishonen Kid doing to the main character exactly what all of us fangirls wish he could do to us... make us symmetrical. XD

Not to mention Kid and Liz already having a lover's spat.

Anyway...

Prompt Interpretation:

When working at that Maid Cafe, Liz decides to turn on the flirty charm when she gets Kid as her next client. "Favorite customer," indeed...

I had a lot of fun with this picture. Right after the first KidLiz chat, this popped into my head, and I had the sketch and lineart down the next day... Super-fast turnover, ha ha.

I really tried to keep the girly charm of the NOT! manga, thus all of the pink and lavender, as well as the tentative addition of some screentone. I'm struggling to figure out how screentone works and where to even get it, so if anyone has any advice, let me know. I also used a lot of references for Liz's Maid Cafe uniform, but none for the pose, and I am particularly happy with how her positioning came out. I really need to use references more often...

I hope you guys enjoy it!

Woahohoho! NAILED IT GIRL! Revolver already put it so perfectly.
You should be incredibly proud of both Liz and Kid's pose. Liz is just so wonderfully devious and shameless. Kid looks really natural and stream-lined albeit nerviously leaning back, a bit precarious on his bar stool. The flirty hearts and skulls texture suits the picture like a charm, and it actually seems like a plausible wallpaper for the cafe.

Perhaps it is my (newly coined) "classy-meets-pervy" attitude towards the pairing, but I simply can't un-notice her knee in between his knees. <3 Forward and subtle at the same time!
That's a positively luxurious dessert. (I suspect at least a pinch of coercing from Liz) Kid's expression filled me with glee. He looks caught in between hurt that she'd stick a finger into his whipped cream and soooo flustered at what she's doing with it.

This makes me grin so hard.

Ah, don't worry, my dear! I didn't think your comment was mundane at all! It makes me soooooo happy to hear you say those things! I am trying really hard to work more on my KidLiz pieces, to make them a little more worthy to belong with the fantastic work by you and Gin-kyo and others... I reeeeally liked how Liz's pose came out - I suprised myself with that one, I did, ha ha. And, oh gosh, that maid costume is really fun to draw. You ought to try it sometime.

Ha ha... Flirty!Liz and Blushy!Kid is so adorable...
