October 22, 2011 Prompt: Thorn

Wow, I actually did it! I was actually able to draw and post one full drawing each day, each prompt on the day it was assigned (except for the first one, but I have a good excuse for that).

I feel pretty accomplished, really. I mean, I suppose I didn't have to do all of them and stick so tightly to the deadlines, but... I do seem to work a lot better and more efficiently under the pressure. And it's nice to have some more work on deviantArt! And I got a heck of a lot of practice drawing in different styles, and got to use Photoshop for a lot of effects. So this has been pretty fun! (It basically took up all of my free time this week, but still. It was for a good cause. Yes, spreading the KidLiz love is a very worthy cause.)

There is still that "Optional Crack" prompt, though...

Prompt Interpretation:

After all of the angst of the past few days, I felt like going with something more lighthearted and humerous.

Thus, I present you with... a younger Kid, who is still learning how to fly his skateboard, crashing into a cactus somewhere in the Nevada desert outside of Death City.

Predictable, Patty seems to find Kid's... prickly predicament rather amusing.

Even though Liz is still not entirely used to her new Meister's obsessive-compulsive tendencies and wild mood swings, she already cares about him enough to help him get all of those thorns out of his skin and clothes.

Embarrassed as he is, Kid doesn't really seem to mind that Liz's assistance requires her to invade his personal space and touch him.

Notes:

I was actually rather inspired to draw this tableau by a certain scene with the hyenas in "The Lion King." You know the one.

Technically, Cacti have "spines" rather than "thorns"... but on that note, roses don't have "thorns," they have "prickles." So, yeah, this fulfills the prompt.

At the beginning, I started to draw a regular cactus, when my mom looked over my shoulder and commented that I should "draw the cactus in the Soul Eater style... you know, like the sun and the moon with the creepy faces." ...She was totally right.
