I have a question:
does Maru is not applied to KA, SA and TA? because you only used it on HA.

Maru is used for H sounds only.

Good luck with the next lessons!
I'm quite curious how you're going to explain tenten and combined syllables (sha, nyu...). It's tricky in such a limited space, when you don't see the audience's reaction... But you did well with small "tsu", so I have faith in you!
Just curious: How long do you learn Japanese? You not only seem to be dealing with kanji for some time now, but more or less getting the grasp of them, for which I can only salute you and stare in amazement (at you) and dread (at the kanji)

To tell you the truth I don't know a whole lot of Kanji. I've only memorized how to write about 70 and I could probably read about 20 more. although that might seem like a lot, I should know over 150 by now (According to my sensei lol).
I've been taking Japanese in High school for three years now.
It helps a lot when you get provided worksheets and have deadlines/tests. Makes it harder to be lazy. I would never be able to make myself learn Kanji on my own. ^.^

Whaat?? You can choose Japanese in Highschool? o___O That's so unfair, I wish that was possible where I live. Then I would have had a far better basis - when I started Japanese at uni, I knew next to nothing about the language and in the 1st week felt so hopeless xD.
Can you converse well in Japanese now? ^^ I always wonder how long it takes people until they think they can properly express themselves in Japanese.

I can't converse really but I know enough to make for some funny conversations.
I'm at the level where I know how to get my point across but still get lost very fast. lol

Hehe I am the same . I can talk back a little, but not much and I'm sure it sounds not very good xD. But I've only been studying it for about 5 months, so I guess that's normal.

Last time exchange students came over I had a problem where I would pick up all their habits like saying "nani" and "un" (Instead of "uh huh") and once they left I had to reprogram my mind back to English.
Even a short week of Japanese exposure can do a lot to your brain! lol

Yeah I know what you mean, haha! But it's nice to notice that you learn new things quickly once you're around Japanese speking people ^^.

Yeah, it sounds like a lot I can barely write from one to ten
It's definitely easier to learn when you're forced to on week-to-week basis AND have someone reliable to teach you. We had a native speaker, a great person, and it was such a relief to know that he won't teach us any bullshit

Oh boy! I'm just thinking how I'm going to get through Katakana!
But I suppose if a lot of people decide they want Kanji I might be able to convince myself to do it lol

MoonLightSpectre In reply to emm2341 [2009-01-07 23:18:22 +0000 UTC]
Well people don't need as much guidance for hiragana and katakana, they aren't that complicated and they're phonetic, which is rather comprehensive for our european minds. While a whole lot of people might have troubles with kanji because they're such a mess that you won't even know where to start XD
Good luck with it all!

Your right, lessons 6 seems to be missing. Did I forget to do it?
Oh dear I guess I better fix that.
I'm sorry I've been so lazy with the lessons lately. I'll try to get lesson 6 fixed today and then I'll promise to get 8 up after the Christmas holiday is over.

Exactly what do you mean by "help recognize"?
These lessons are only for introducing all the characters. Afterward I'm going to included a more in depth couple of lessons that include practice and maybe a little grammar to start ya off. It'll be fun ^.^

Like in Lesson 2, where you had a reading section and readers would give the romanization.

Ah I see! Yea I kinda stopped doing that didn't I
I'm sorry my lessons are being so inconsistent.
That's because my ideas started kinda changing right about there.
Right now I'm making a workbook that will have practice problems assigned to specific lessons. I
At the moment I'm just trying to get the lessons out. When I'm done I'll go back and change things so that there's practice problems are included in the lessons too.
