You know what... I never realized that I didn't even complete the last three characters.
I guess that's something I should work on now ^.^
I thought I was all done with these!

Still, thank you SO much. It means a lot that you do these. You're VERY good at teaching them. I hope to see perhaps Katakana later? I dunno, up to you. Β But thanks. c:

Thank you so much
When I started making these a few years ago I noticed there was a severe lack of thorough Hiragana lessons so I'm glad that I could contribute something to the Japanese learning community.Β
One of these day's I'll have to sit down and do a Katakana one too. I know that it's long overdue.

I can read kana as easily as I can read english, it always seems odd to me when I hear of people not being able to read.

I like a variety of music.
There is a lot of songs I wouldn't like if I hadn't seen in an Anime.
I tend to like rock like Orange Range, Yui and other various artists that I can't remember.

wow, i don't ever think i've seen a how-to-write-japanese tutorial like this before. although i've already mastered hiragana+katakana+some kanji (LEVEL TWO BAY-BEH!
), i think it's commendable that you have taken it upon yourself to make a guide for everyone else~!
Also, though i know everyone is asking you already, how *would* you go about teaching kanji? if you ever got to it? or would you start with grammer first? i know *I* learned grammer before kanji, but maybe you learned it the other way? *shrug* ...just curious

I've never seen a detailed how-to-write-japanese either! Hundreds of grammar tutorials but very few that go into writing.
As for Kanji. I've thought about that a lot. I would probably do a kanji tutorial if only for the sake of helping ME remember them! lol
I feel quite inexperienced with grammar and you can find grammar lessons all over the internet from people who know way more than I do.
But through my experience of learning Japanese I've found it's easier to remember words and kanji if your able to put them to use.
If you give me a kanji and tell me to study it, chances are I will hardly remember it at all down the run. I can't connect the character with anything and so it doesn't stick in my mind.
But if you give me a word or two that the character goes with, and then have me use that word several times in a sentence! Then I find that I'm using the kanji more often and I remember it faster.
I recognize that the people who read my lessons have little knowledge of the Japanese language. And because of that I would probably add some grammar as a side point to my lessons. Really it would become "How to read/write Kanji and put that kanji in a sentence"
Since kanji is a written part of the language I feel it would be quite useless to learn kanji before you learn any grammar because then you can't write a sentence. Your just writing characters over and over.
There are plenty of people who want to learn Japanese but are lost on how.
In my lessons I would hope not to just help people learn but figure out a study method that works for them. If they can figure out a routine for learning then everything becomes much easier. In the end they would be able to continue learning without my help.
Of course this is all theoretical! I've considered doing a few kanji lessons but I've found myself having a hard time knowing where to start exactly. And I've been short on free time lately... You could probably expect at least one kanji lesson in the future but I wouldn't guarantee it going very far.

hrmm, so true. It is, I suppose, quite unrational to think that people would be able to remember and use kanji before learning the necessary grammar...ANYWHO, I wish you luck in your own japanese lessons, and find myself, nevertheless, waiting for how you might choose to dictate your kanji lesson(s?)

If I were to start kanji lessons, what kanji do you think I should start with? Most people learn the kanji for 1-10 first but those are so dull -.-
π: 0 β©: 1
anime-fushigi In reply to emm2341 [2009-05-09 00:42:36 +0000 UTC]
hrmm...I know that when I started to learn kanji, I, like most people, started with 1-10; but you are right. Those are boring (and I bet people already kinda-sorta know them) After that came slightly more interesting kanji: the days of the week [insert dramatic gasp here]. And after that, I learned the "watashi" kanji, some directional kanji (i.e. "migi", "hidari", "ue", "shita", etc...) and after those, I learned some kanji for some words (i.e. "ikimasu", "aimasu", "tabemasu", "nomimasu", etc...)
I don't know if this'd help you, but I hope you do your best regardless!

It was pretty much the same with me
I learned the numbers first, And then mostly a lot of verbs. perhaps I should include in each lesson different subjects of Kanji so to keep the knowledge varied
For example: Each lessons have one kanji that is a verb, one that is a noun and then have some adjectives/adverbs etc.
Once in a while I'd probably have a lessons that pertains to a specific theme like learning all of the days of the week at once or something like that.

Only one lesson to go? Are you going for katakana after that, or are you exhausted enough as it is?
Anyway, thank you for the hard work

Kanji! I definitely need to learn that more than katakana!
Just curious - where would you start?
π: 0 β©: 1
emm2341 In reply to Lawenta [2009-04-07 23:18:24 +0000 UTC]
I would learn Katakana first. Katakana is pretty similar to Hiragana but theres some annoying differences...
π: 0 β©: 1
Lawenta In reply to emm2341 [2009-04-08 06:40:05 +0000 UTC]
I know - but I learned katakana already, I just need to exercise reading so I don't forget. But as for kanji, if I remember ten of them, I'll count myself lucky...
π: 0 β©: 1
emm2341 In reply to Lawenta [2009-04-09 00:29:11 +0000 UTC]
lol they're hard to remember if you don't use them regularly
I hated learning Katakana. I just didn't stick as easily. And I read Katakana more slowly than I read Hiragana since it's not used as much. It's just annoying.

Lawenta In reply to emm2341 [2009-04-09 07:07:36 +0000 UTC]

Turns out I had it "done" and saved for the last month. The lesson just seemed so short to me I didn't feel like it was complete enough. >.< So I saved it and told myself that I would work on it later. Of course I had forgotten that part.
Here I was thinking I still had a whole bunch of stuff to do on it!
Yea you can slap me now lol
