Description
My 2nd watercolor tutorial. It might looks pretty long, because it's filled with many pictures to help you understand my process, instead of using a lot of texts.
Edit: Wet in Wet is : Adding wet colors on damp sheet of paper or an area of still-wet paint, and let them run out over the wet surface, giving soft-hazy effect
If you have any watercolor question, Feel free to ask me.

@-@ hmm what does it mean to add pure water to the painting?
does that create highlight? is that just using water?

emperpep In reply to Kuurimu [2012-02-08 02:38:03 +0000 UTC]
left a white space on paper is a way to create highlight. adding pure water is to made the highlight looks soft and hazy.

When you add the folds in the clothes, do you outline them first lightly in pencil? or do you just directly paint them in?

Can you tell my how to do wet on wet technique when the background is dried because Im so slow with painting and when I try to wet the background the color is getting off a bit.
And can you tell me how to paint areas without get those hard edges?
Would be great if you could answer. Thanks

O.M.G. YOUR WORK IS AMAZING! I apologise if you've heard this before but you are one of THE most talented traditional art manga artists I have ever encountered! I am simply stunned by the sheer beauty and overwhelming power that all of your pieces contain!! This looks simply... breathtakingly beautiful. I applaud you for your skills and hope to be as great as you one day. Practice clearly does make perfect!
You have just earned yourself another few favourites and a watcher

After adding the base color, do you wait for it to dry first then add on shading or shade when it's wet?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to luinelle [2011-11-26 06:15:16 +0000 UTC]
If I want to create soft hazy strokes, I will add colors when base layer is wet.
And dry layer is for sharp brushstroke.

Oh and how do you prevent jagged edges? There;s some jagged edges in the background when it dried [link]

I've started watercolors and seen that other tutorials say to "stretch" the paper before painting. Is it really necessary to do that? Or does it depend on the paper or painter?
π: 0 β©: 1
emperpep In reply to sakurahime22 [2011-11-17 02:45:51 +0000 UTC]
I think this technique can prevent watercolor paper from bending [when applying heavy wash on it], But I don't use this technique because It doesn't necessary for my painting style. [I use 190g,300g paper ,and they never bend.]
