Description Wha-? enchan made a tutorial?
You better believe it! I spent all day on it See what I do when my webcomic is on hiatus?
For those of you who have asked me how it's done, I present to you the step-by-step manga tutorial~~~!
It's very unprofessional...T___T I'm sorry...I do hope it helps though.
And that tachikiri guide I tell you I'll provide here is here-> [link]
Full view to see the tutorial....It's huuuuge O_O Gomenne~~T^T
The mini comic features my characters from the webcomic MAJESTY -> [link]
I know it doesn't make sense...but I had to come up with something fast enough for the tutorial. (It might make sense if you know the characters ;;;; *loser* )
Good Luck~! And enjoy!
Required Tools: The media shown in the first step of the tutorial, Photoshop 5 or higher and ComicWorks.

EDIT: Thanks everyone for all the favs! I'm happy you found this helpful in some sorta way XD;; I edited my site address in the description...and maybe one day I'll fix the address on the tutorial---but it is wrong XD....Remember~~~>enchantma.com!
ANOTHER EDIT: Okay, so the Tachikiri guide isn't working...Nevermind that. Every publishing company has it's own guides anyway but the standard is that the page dimensions should follow a 2:3 ratio.
MORE EDIT: Thank you, for bringing this to my attention but you can find the Tokyopop template if you Google "mechspec5"...She says, "The second link, a pdf file, has the template at the bottom of it"
Now please stop asking me where it is XD;;
FINAL EDIT (I hope): I HAVE A NEW TUTORIAL THAT SHOULD ANSWER WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. Please check it out BEFORE asking questions. Thanks!

i'm gonna make a web manga and post it on DA -because i don't have a website- but the tachikiri gram thing won't work

xyle In reply to ??? [2006-11-02 03:41:53 +0000 UTC]

Pretty useful but it looks rather somewhat tedious TT^TT so...to make like a manga, it'd prolly take forever if done individually DX

i've also not seen or heard of white ink before, and yes im from another planet

the model, i would like to know how much did you bought it for?

btw, toning in step 6 can also be done in photoshop's 'levels', i looks kind similar...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

enchantma In reply to xyle [2006-11-02 06:06:49 +0000 UTC]

well, a lot of steps go into making manga...at first it's hard to go through all the work, but once it becomes routine, it goes by pretty fast. professional artists can spend up to 7 hours on just one page.
hm, i dont remember how much the model was...i think somewhere between $7-$10 USD, or maybe more...
photoshop is definately a convenient toning program, but i used comicworks for the tutorial...i'm thinkin about doin a photoshop one...

xyle In reply to enchantma [2006-11-04 01:59:17 +0000 UTC]

Btw, you also mentioned to write down the scripts first before startin
is this only applied to mangas with more talking and less 'walking'?

i mean, mangas like One Piece, Naruto and Bleach..
they contain lots of actions, can the script step be applied here too?

and what about irregularly shaped panels?
can the panels come first then only the scripts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

enchantma In reply to xyle [2006-11-07 20:49:39 +0000 UTC]

i dont fully understand that question, but like i said before, it's always good to plan ahead...no matter where the panels are, it's all part of the same thing. a lot of work goes into each page before it's inked and toned...so figuring out the layout should be preplanned. doesnt have to be in the script, but that definately keeps it organized~

xyle In reply to enchantma [2006-11-08 15:39:55 +0000 UTC]

owh...it seems like you've not seen this type before..
i saw it a few times before in magazines, and they're really nice,
very different and unique compared to the standard rectangular square shaped panels..

Thanks for all the replies and sorry if my curiousity's been very annoying

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

enchantma In reply to xyle [2006-11-05 02:07:53 +0000 UTC]

action and script writing go hand in hand. scripting is all about planing ahead, and u cant have a gripping action scene without mapping it out before hand. the script is really for u to do better, theres no set law, so its really just to help. i use a script to keep things in order so even if looks like:
girl 1: hey you wanna go to the park?
girl 2: sure!
-phone rings
-2 panels side by side-girl 1 shocked to see who's calling, girl 2 looks confused
-girl 1 stands up and girl 2 follows.

see? i put in action and speech. i also use my script notebook to draw tiny presketches of how i might want to design the layout.
or let's say i have a heavier action scene:
character A: panel 1:How would you like a tast of some of my power?
panel 2: HYAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! -attacking with a punch
panel 3: punch is blocked by character B, who throws A to the ground
-SFX:THUD!

it's all about mapping out ideas you have in your head. scripting is really important because jotting ideas down helps you expand on ideas, and u can always come back to them if ur stumped. so writing ahead is a great advantage to creating a complex story.

hope that info helps!

I LOVE this tutorial. Very well done, clear, and the pictures for reference are amazing. Too bad I can't afford any of the products as the fact, I suck XD and I can't download them or ask friends either XD

But I've always loved your art and your manga. Thank you so much, if I can get these programs, I'm going to try to start up on my DA account again/manga. I'm like inspired <3

I'm so happy I found this, I've been starting a manga, I've worked on the story and the research, but it slways bugs me, since I can't work properly if I can't see how the character looks like, I never even got to finish Chapter one! I love this! Your the best! I'll watch you!
