SHADOW TUTORIAL
Made by me

I was having trouble with one of my shadows for my last manip, and that inspired me to make a shadow tut. You'll probably recognise the horse from my Either Way graphic.

Hope it helps someone! It's a pretty general technique, just thought I'd help some people out.

The next tut will be...

Shadows in water!

Thank you so so so so much! My way of doing shadows before this tutorial was so slow, edgy and cheap looking - now they look pretty professional! Thanks again (:Β

good tutorial Thi is how i do my shadows as well generally ^^ One thing you can also do is on grassy, sandy and other uneven ground surfaces you can use a fuzzy eraser with low opacity and erase bits of the shadow slightly, this makes it look even more realistic as if the shadow dips with the curves of the sand or ground surface.

(super late reply for you and i a not the original poster of this tutorial but i do use gimp :3)

GIMP works basically the same way. When you finish your prep on the ojbect you want a shadow of simply duplicate the layer and either got to Color>brightness/contrast and lower brightness and increase contrast or bucket fill the object with black. Then use the resize tool and "squish" the image down (make sure the little chain is unhoooked!). You can then go to blur>gaussian blur and blur it Of course the change in opacity is up to you/depends on your background image ^^
