it's just a matter of using plenty of highlights and lowlights, and making sure that the hair has plenty of flow to it (i.e. it's not straight like a stick

I think it looks great!
The hair looks excellent, and you could probably even add some more highlights as well. What I do, is think about where pieces of hair would be crossing over or blowing backwards, as most of the time, horse hair is quite uncontrollable, haha!

good job on the horses and the water. Maybe, you should 'paint' and ad some other contrast to the bg's because lightning doesn't fit that well.

I love the mane and tail!! Awesome job!! The only thing I would say (although I don't think I'm one to judge) is the horses look a little too bright for the background.
