“It is from the Harbinger's Sigilla that all our legalities stem," the Chief Scribe says.

"Listen," the Hellbinder interrupts, "strange women flyin' over ponds, distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farsical atmospheric ceremony!"

"Be quiet!" Theonius snaps.

"You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just cause some winged tart threw a sword at you!"

"Shut up!" Theonius snaps.

But the Hellbinder is undeterred. "I mean, if I went round sayin' I was the city's Master Sorcerer just because some feathered bint had lobbed a spear or a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!"

"Shut up! Will you shut up!" Theonius barks, rising from his stool.

"Ah," Ordiel mutters, "now we'll see the violence inherent in the system."

"Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" Elina mmphs.

Ah, it feels good to get that out there. Of course, that's not the real narrative to be posted with this page, but as much as I liked how the image came out, I was really hoping to drop that little Python reference in here somewhere. The real narrative follows...

***********************************************

“Your… fearlessness… in this regard does you credit, High Lord,” Theonius responds carefully, “but it could be misplaced. The Sigilla are among the most carefully warded treasures housed in this mighty edifice, cast in a form unchanged from when the Lady Herself made use of them and from which their nature is not casually derived, against which all practitioners of sorcerous arts in court are tested.”

The Chief Scribe pauses, his weathered eyes singling out both the Proxim Magistrate and the creature kneeling before them. “By the Lady’s directive, they are to be wielded only by one of high stature, one for whom death tolls differently, not as an end to life but the changing of an idea, even the so-named ‘Powers That Be.’ Only such can pronounce them.” The Chief Scribe pauses, some fleeting question passing briefly behind eyes that dart first at the Hellbinder and then back at his own writing quill. A moment later, the white-haired figure nods as if once again finding the place of his thoughts and settles back down into his seat, some course of action accepted.

Enjoy!

Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

I'd introduce you to her, but things tend to "go to hell" once she shows up. Although, checking out your account name, that might not be such a bad thing...

Well, I've actually started drawing some of the story board sketches for some of that confrontation, and the schedule says that I might just get to it in 2018. Here's hoping!

Theo: "Hang on a minute.  I need to sharpen my quill (so to speak).  Anyone have a blade I can borrow?"

Suddenly, with a THUNDEROUS CLAP of displaced air, the goddess Office-Maxima appeared!  In her right hand was Staples, the mighty sword of cutting through office clutter with organizing supplies and attractive binders.  Her left hand sparkled with the energy of efficient WiFi and the ethereal spirit of quality networking hardware and cables at reasonable prices.

Maxima: "Here ya go, Theo.

Theo [paring the tip of his quill (so to speak) against Staples' keen edge]: "Thanks, Max."

Maxima: "No problem."

Velmalina [worshipfully]: "Mrrrrmpfh!"  [Gaglish to English: "I love your Post-it notes!"]

And... Scene!

The llamas aren't dancing.  The llamas are stunned.

It's been in the works for a little while. There are too many parallels to that Arthurian legend to avoid dropping it somewhere. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
