Okay, I'm going back now to continue Maladyne's story arc in Web of Betrayal.

The previous page is this one:

Mature Content

The next page is not ready, yet, but the break in the story picks up again at the following page of A Lesser Evil:

Mature Content

***********************************************

“Those Dustmaidens turned their backs and covered their faces," Maladyne continues aloud, rehearsing to herself what she feels she must say to her forebears. "They hid what was in their hearts in order to survive in a world of the Lady’s making. Always reminded of what they really were and what was hidden within them, they were forced to be firm in their resolve to ignore it. To forget.”

She brushes a tear from her eye and turns away briefly from the mirror, but then returns her gaze to her own reflection. “What would happen if the people of Dernhem learned that the true scions of their greatest house were all the direct offspring of the Dustmaidens of the Allmother? That their greatest leaders who inspired them to untarnished resolve and devotion to the Harbinger’s ideals were once those who drove terror into the hearts of their fathers and mothers? Those who were themselves traitors by their very nature. What then of the people’s devotion, of their hope in the Lady of Light and Blade? Of their hope in the Hereother? Would it all not suffer together? Would the pedestal on which they place themselves not crack and crumble to ruin?”

***********************************************

This page continues Maladyne's second-to-last scene in the chapter. Since it was used to craft a recently-posted blooper image, I'm going to post the next page later today, too.

As always, Maladyne was drawn using the wonderful reference material provided by minokura . Thanks!

I hope people are weathering the current situation well, and that those who are suffering can get the help they need. Again, I'd like to encourage everyone to be a bit more understanding and tolerant than ever, and I mean myself as well, in viewpoints and communications.

Enjoy!

Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

I don't know the original context for which this was created, but I do know it is beautiful art. Lovely.

She brushes a tear from her eye and turns away briefly from the mirror, but then returns her gaze to her own reflection.

Mallie: "Hey!  Where the hell is my tattoo?  What happened to my tattoo?  Jefffff!"
Jeff:    "Huh?  Tattoo?  What tattoo?  You never had a tattoo."
Mallie: "I sooooo had a tattoo, and you know it!"
Jeff:    "You really did hit your head when you popped out of nowhere.  Damn Gus anyway for stealing the nice soft yoga mat I drew for your landing pad."
Van:    "No, she did have a tattoo.  Here, I'll help." {"Expecto Thumbnailio!")

Jeff: "Oh...  That tattoo."  [Glares at Van.]  "Thanks a lot, 'buddy.'"
Van: "My pleasure."
Mallie: "Jefffff!"
Jeff [thinking]: When the hell did I draw her a fish?

And... Scene!

{"I say!  Isn't this a tad blasphemous?  ...from a Great Scribbler perspective, I mean.")

The Great Scribbler encourages blasphemy and heresy, but not hegemony nor theocracy, and has a talent for diplomacy ( the bad kind that encourages people to lose respect for each other ). "Wave on, oh mighty fish!"

This reminds me of that Deep Space 9 episode where Cap'n Sisko details in his log how he successfully roped the Romulans in on the Dominion War on the side of the Federation, by building a complex web of lies, deception and fraud. And at the end of it all, he closes out the episode with "Computer: erase that entire log entry". My favorite Trek episode ever!

We just watched the one where the Tal Shiar and the Obsidian Order make a first strike on the apparently-unprotected Dominion homeworld and get massacred by the unexpected fleet. So, in the spirit of Insto ( www.deviantart.com/comments/1/… ), I think I've never seen that one,... yet. At 3-5 episodes of DS9 each week, I don't know how long it'll take to get there, but if it's one of your favorites, I'll be looking forward to it. Thanks for the comment!

Avery Brooks should have won an Emmy for that episode.

"And so I lied. I cheated. I bribed men to cover the crimes of other men. I am an accessory to murder. But the most damning thing about all this? If I had to do it again, I would."

Brilliant.
