Okay, I'm going back now to continue Maladyne's story arc in Web of Betrayal.

I'm fast-forwarding a bit here again, showing eight of the ten completed images in the second part of the next sequence. Why? Well, the issues that are to be shared in this sequence are, as DA puts it, ideologically sensitive, and they're a little personal. In the magical, venom-fueled hallucination, Maladyne encounters important members of her family and confronts them about their great devotion to the Harbinger and plan to lead all of Dernhem into Her embrace. The first individual Maladyne converses with is her mother, a woman who I still have not named (but I'm currently leaning toward Olorea (something) of House Martilis).
Again, my draft of this section is a little personal in the sentiments expressed between a "child" who is questioning their parent's worldview and the parent who believed they acted only with their child's best interests at heart. Again, the phrase "Write what you know" is somewhat insightful here, in that I have some experience with the prospect Maladyne and her mother are facing, although "Write what you want to understand" is a far more influential notion in Demon's Due and this scene in particular.
With that in mind, I won't post it yet, either. I'll just suggest a couple of important points from it as they pertain to the story posted here on DA. The part that isn't all that personal is about the quickening, as Maladyne and her mother talk about the secrets of a dual quickening that was practiced amongst the people of the Dustmaidens. Although I have yet to express some of the terminology in the proper idiom (right now it's anachronistic in spots, even for me), here's what I have about it: "They called it 'Vigios Vas,' the ‘dual quickening.’ But the offspring of those so quickened were always magically sensitive, either Dustmaiden females or Water Wight males. No unsensitive females nor apotent males resulted. Too many of power born to oversee their society led to endless strife amongst their own people and to a cataclysmic meddling in the natural way of things. Their struggle of classes became hopelessly unbalanced as did their taxation of their environment, and this ultimately resulted in their having to abandon their homeland beyond the Weeping Sea and move eastward to threaten us and our land with the same fate.”
Also, at long last, we have arrived at Avora's return to the limelight. Maladyne was drawn using the awesome reference imagery provided by minokura . Avora was drawn using the reference material provided to me by Viator-Defessus and an unnamed model he worked with. Thanks, folks!
I hope people are weathering the current situation well, and that those who are suffering can get the help they need. Again, I'd like to encourage everyone to be a bit more understanding and tolerant than ever, and I mean myself as well, in viewpoints and communications.
Enjoy!
Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Is that Mal's mom in the top-right corner? We're gonna call her Momma-dyne. I love that judgy expression she's got. It's all like "What, you're gonna get sassy with me? That's cute. I was captain of the debate team and the varsity cheer squad my sophomore year at Dernhem Prep, AND I won the all-conference bake-off. Also, I was Senior Class President when I was a JUNIOR. You were what, president of the AV club? Yeah, that's what I thought. Don't mess with Momma-dyne."
