“Then perhaps we are at an impasse, creature,” Ordiel says, “...lest your intent is to claim yourself of such status, to claim kinship of sorts with the Lady of Light and Blade Herself.” His eyes narrow expectantly. “Do you?”

“Hold a moment, High Lord,” the Chief Scribe interrupts. “Before the creature responds, it must be stated as in the same Sigilla, that to place oneself on the same level as the Harbinger is to immediately draw Her attention and Her mighty wrath. ‘Twas so two centuries past when invaders sought these lands for themselves, and for their own Powers That Be. In raising up the Mother of the Depths and the Dreamstalker in their peoples’ eyes to the station of the Harbinger, their followers sealed their own doom when camest the Lady of Light and Blade. We here are a testament to the truth of that statement. Though the Lady of Light and Blade has not been present in these lands for these two centuries, it is unwise to provoke this creature to make such a claim, be it in truth the Hellbinder or no.”

“And yet,” Lord Ordiel says, inclining his head toward the scribe, “if it is a falsehood, we shall know of it immediately through the enchantments of this station, and the creature’s claim can be dismissed. Is that not true?”

Theonius’ upraised hand slowly settles back to the tilted surface of the scrivener’s desk. “Yes, Proxim Magistrate. That is also true."

Again, Theonius was essentially drawn a bit more dark and then lightened up, based on the reference material of a mystery deviant as yet unnamed. My thanks to this kind and expressive fellow!

Enjoy!

Note: Web of Betrayal and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

I'm not sure I got all that they were talking about...but as far as I can tell Ordiel's trying to get the Hellbinder to say the celestial equivalent of Candlejack?

I had to look that one up, as I was not familiar with the reference (which is a regular occurrence around here ). Essentially, they're saying that it's one thing for a normal human being to say, "I don't belong to the Harbinger," but it's another thing entirely for a godlike being to say, "You don't belong to the Harbinger; you belong to Me." In the New Testament, leaders among the people of Jerusalem were outraged when Jesus would suggest that he/He was on par with their god/God. In this storyline, while the Hellbinder may not need to be concerned that he'll be stoned or crucified for making a similar claim, the godlike being Herself might get offended and step in to take action. The fact that the two seated leaders are actually concerned that such a thing would happen and it wouldn't be desirable is actually rather telling in itself...

Lord Oreos: "Did somebody let a dog in here?"

Theo: "I don't think so.  Wait...  wait...  I detect beef... white rice... garum... and broccoli."

Uncle Rope Monster: "You're not foolin' anybody, Oreos."

Theo: "As it states in the Lexis Sarcastium, 'He who smelt it, dealt it'... Oreos."

Velmalina: "Mrrrmpfh!"  [Gaglish to English: "You had a Broccoli Beef bowl from Undead-Panda Express for lunch... Oreos."]

Lord Oreos: "Shut up, all of you.  I'm not well.  I must have fruit!"

And... Scene!

Don't blame me.  Finex666 thought of it first... and Jeff drew it!

We don't need to talk about blame. "... [finex666 ] has no authority here. This is merely a sentencing hearing..." www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-dJPo…
