As if following a trail to the answer, Avora finds herself moving along the path toward the main ground of the bees’ activity, a garden full of exotic-looking blossoms and short, wild-looking trees. Gone from this stretch of ground are the carefully cultivated designs that permeate the rest of the Mitesceru Estate. Instead, clusters of grass, blooming flowers, creepers, and tree roots mingle in relative disorder, as if each is growing over the other in its pursuit of sunlight, water, and nutrients. Avora spies several varieties that can be harmful or even fatal to people, including stinging nettles, poisonous ivies, rust-colored grip-grass, and even the dreaded traveling stalks of the hypnoseminora plant the locals call “sleeper’s bane.” All of these sprawl beneath a canopy of various trees, some with menacing, claw-like roots and others with leaves moving with unnerving freedom in the breezeless air.
Noting an evening mist growing in the garden recesses, Avora checks her footing. With potential threats like what she has seen in this corner of the estate gardens, she is glad that pilgrims coming to visit the estate keep to the sign of the Harbinger statues that abound, but which are absent here. Minding that she stay within the safety of the broken stone path, she gazes over the packed wall of plant life before her being slowly concealed beneath the growing mist, until her eyes come to rest on the gardener’s shed and the great stone table standing beside it.
