Description

PART 1:   PART 3:

Sorry the download is only for canines, its what I normally do presets for. But it is the same basic concept.

Have a question/problem? Ask me and Ill post it here. Someone else might have the same problem. But otherwise I believe my tutorial is pretty straight forward.

Mine didn't have extra layers or anything in the first part of this new tutorial. Did I do something wrong?

Can you use Paint, if you don't have GIMP or Paint Tool Sai? Or dose any paint program really matter?

FlyWheel68 In reply to Viirsahvot [2015-03-09 06:28:05 +0000 UTC]

No, you cant use paint. You need a multi-layer program. There are many you can download for free.

You open the .pdf file, that should have all the layers on it. The .png is the flat image that wont have layers, just the texture.

I'm not using photoshop, and when i try to color my preset the texture is covered with the color

FlyWheel68 In reply to azurathewolfcat [2014-08-01 17:03:49 +0000 UTC]

It depends what program you are using. You need to have a multi layer program and the texture files and be able to set the textures to multiply.

azurathewolfcat In reply to FlyWheel68 [2014-08-01 17:06:39 +0000 UTC]

I am using fire-alpaca

FlyWheel68 In reply to azurathewolfcat [2014-08-01 18:02:13 +0000 UTC]

It might still work then. You need to make sure that your color layers are under the texture layers. Then in the layer window where it shows all the different layers, there should be "bending" and a drop bar. It might say normal or something else, but set it to multiply or whichever mode looks the best with your colors. Be sure to have color under the textures or you can't see the difference.

ok im using an online one, but when i color in the layer 0 it doesnt show onto the other layers o-O but the lines do

FlyWheel68 In reply to RayBBird [2014-06-25 05:44:14 +0000 UTC]

Are you talking about the UV map lines or other lines that you made? If you created other layers that work just do that. I remember others having troubles with that layer 0.

RayBBird In reply to FlyWheel68 [2014-06-25 17:45:55 +0000 UTC]

So the UV map lines work, but when you add new layer or other markings they don't show? What program are you using?

FlyWheel68 In reply to RayBBird [2014-06-26 17:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I know why then. You can't set your texture layers to multiply, which is needed when adding markings. Try downloading GIMP, it's also free.

I'm not sure why it's all one layer, but sure you can still continue making it like that.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, or what's really going on. You said you has the photoshop trial, maybe you need to learn photoshop a bit more before you start making presets. GIMP is another multilayer program you can use, and I think it can open psd files. And it's free.

FlyWheel68 In reply to hypothermiia [2013-07-12 20:59:53 +0000 UTC]

It shouldn't, it's a multilayer file. I'm not sure what you did wrong. It works with my GIMP.

I don't have a program like Photoshop and stuff, can I also use a program just like dA Muro? I don't know if the layers are transparent in a program like Muro.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyWheel68 In reply to KelboRulesSLD [2013-06-05 22:21:52 +0000 UTC]

You can use GIMP and it's free to download. I don't think da Muro would work. It doesn't have the layer modes like multiply that you need to make presets with textures.

Awesome tutorial.

However, GIMP hit a tantrum. :I

Whenever I drag Layer 0 to the top position I can see the fur texture. When I drag it down below all the rest of the layers it turns transparent and there's nothing there but the paws. xc

FlyWheel68 In reply to Mia-Kaiia [2013-03-26 04:19:00 +0000 UTC]

I had that problem also when I used GIMP. For some reason it won't let you color that layer. Just delete that one and create a new layer. That should solve your problem.

Very helpful! But I got one problemo: I can't see the Texture1 and 2 layers when I make Layer 0 visible... Is it supposed to do that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyWheel68 In reply to TheButterflyEffectee [2013-03-12 04:21:14 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you mean by visible, because the layer should already be visible, you just need to add the color to it. Make sure all your color layers are under the texture layers. That might be your problem.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheButterflyEffectee In reply to FlyWheel68 [2013-03-12 04:56:06 +0000 UTC]

I meant to say that when I first opened the psd file on Gimp, I couldn't see the Texture1 and Texture2 layers when Layer 0 was visible (I turned all layers on and off to see which one was making them do that), but now that I brought it under the Texture layers they're visible. Thanks.

Sorry if my posts make little sense, happens when I'm tired.

FlyWheel68 In reply to TheButterflyEffectee [2013-03-12 05:01:36 +0000 UTC]

No problem as long as we figured it out. Yeah, Gimp is a little different than Photoshop and reacts differently with layer settings.

Very nice tutorial! Thank you for doing it!
But there's something on my mind... I cannot use the texture. I have finished the preset and it doesn't show up in the preset-tool. Maybe this is because I couldn't open die material-file. Do I do something wrong or what? There shows a message up that the file is invalid or something...
Please help.

FlyWheel68 In reply to Orchideenkatze [2013-01-24 22:39:17 +0000 UTC]

If the model shows up white or sometimes not at all, it is most likely the material file. It is saying it is invalid because the defult program windows opens up for that particular file does not support it. It should have an option to pick a program to open it. Choose Notepad.

Very cool tutorial! But the one problem I'm having is the texture. It seem slike in your tutorial that the white did not show on the texture image so when you lowered the opacity, it didn't make it lighter. I don't know how to do that....o3o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FlyWheel68 In reply to Roxeeade [2013-01-21 22:01:24 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure what you are trying to do, make the texture lighter? I did not do anything to the opacity, I set the layers to multiply. If you want the texture to be lighter, try deleting one of the texture layers.
