Note: THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!Never have I felt so conflicted about a Sonic game before. Now, during the arguably lack luster build up overshadowed by Mania, there was a lot of controversy as far as the game's design choices, and I'll still stand by the fact that the people who want this game to fail are just outright selfish and immature. But now that the game is out and I've played it, I'll say this; It's not one of the best Sonic Games ever made, BUT, It's also far from being awful.
Let me start off with what I like. Firstly, while I'll agree that the level design might be too basic (Not so much linear), I did enjoy a good handful of stages like Aqua Road, Null Space, and Ghost Town. I also really enjoyed the Custom Avatar gimmick along with the wispons. There are so many customization options and the wispons don't feel as intrusive as the wisps from Sonic Generations (Console) or Sonic Lost World (3DS). For the next game, I'd say they should do it again only more fleshed out. The graphics look great and the lighting really does compliment the games art style. The story, while just meh and occasionally disappointing in a few areas, I still think it is a step up from Lost World and Boom. It has a more mature tone, similar to the Adventure games or SatAM, but it doesn't take itself too seriously. Personally, I like Infinite more than Mephilies. While Mephilies has a better back story, Infinite isn't potrayed as much of a dumbass. I think Classic Sonic controls a little better than his Generations counterpart, and the music, while not one of my favorite soundtracks, is still good.
As for my negatives, The Modern Sonic levels could've been better since they felt too basic. Though, I still think they're better than Black Knights level design. Also, the stage length as whole could've been better since a lot of these stages could be beaten in 1 or 2 minutes. Classic Sonic has no reason to be in this game period. He's just there. Lastly, the game as a whole does feel rushed. You don't even get to fight Chaos or Shadow. However, these negatives aren't enough to make me despise this game. But they are enough to make me say "This could've been better.
Overall, I just think that this game is just okay. For 4 years of development though, that's admittedly disappointing. But hey, at least it didn't turn out to be a glitchy mess like Rise of Lyric.

I prefer Johnny’s 06 review over Clement’s honestly.

Plus he went a little overboard when he was angry. I get the point, but it got to where it sounded like he was whining and crying.

That's part of the review for me. Like Johnny 'getting drunk' during his Sunshine review.

Of course the poor sales on Lost World And Boom weren’t entirely their own fault for being what they were, nobody gave a damn about the Wii U. XD
I think they already knew how much of a failure the console was as early as 2013.
At this point though, the Sonic Fanbase is just confused. After Generations, The Series is just stumbling to keep its good rep again.
How do you think Sonic Team should proceed?

I was counting on Forces being good but I thought the following: they're going to have to program a new engine if they want to make an Adventure-type game, and that's a lot of money not everyone might be keen on repaying.
Now recently the N-Sane Trilogy revitalised interest in Crash Bandicoot, and Vicarious Visions has said they'd do more with Crash if it sold well, which it has (3rd best selling on PS4, after Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn), and they'd presumably reuse that engine.
So I say, remake SA1 and 2 in full HD glory (also because I can't think of a game more let down by its presentation than SA1) using that new engine, make sure it's close, and then that Sonic Adventure N-Sane Duology will sell like hot cakes. There's your engine costs back, and now go make a new game with it. I think most people appreciated what Adventure nostalgia there was in Forces. And SA1 is about as old as Crash 3, so it makes sense to me.

Y’know What? I agree with Remaking SA1 and 2. The only thing about this aside from Vocal Adventure Fans complaining about nostalgia pandering, I would like for them to actually improve what was wrong. Like the stories for example.

Yeah they would have to correct stuff. Because both stories have tons of issues. And MAKE SURE IT'S THE SA1 RADAR! And I guess we can take out Big and Amy's gameplay for the most part.
But those games are more deserving of remakes than any other game I can think of.

Adventure’s 1 and 2, 06, Unleashed, and Generations.
These deserve remakes the most.

Yeah, remake '06 too. Then we have a REAL trilogy on our hands .
Generations needs more levels more than a remake, and Unleashed, well, if you cut most of the Werehog levels in half, remove the medal requirements and apply Generations physics, that's all that really needs to be done. In fact, do that, make Colors in HD and make those three a second trilogy.

Like I said, I don't know a single game that suffers from its presentation than SA1. Oh, and make the radar not horrendously underpowered in SA2.

Some Sonic fans also want the Chao Garden to return, but in my opinion, that also counts as nostalgia pandering.
