You won't see this in the comics, because as we all know NO ONE DIES IN REAL LIFE! But I kinda enjoy the drama, gives the heroes something to fight for.

For royalties, all he wanted was a little money for the use of the characters he helped create. Also, he didn't take away the characters, Archie is still able to use them, they just choose not to.
