Enter Saffron!
She only has a very small role in this comic, albeit an important one. The fate of Angel Island rests in her hands while Knuckles is away. I would like to point out that Knuckles' remark about spending a few days scavenging is purely for pacing reasons. The script requires that other plotlines be given priority to keep events chronological, so I'm afraid I won't return to the echidna side of the story until Sonic Retold #5. I'm sorry to keep you waiting longer for the family reunion, but that's just how these things go. 
Also, Julie-Su's Streaking Pasha Thunder returns on this page. Thunder only appeared in a handful of Knuckles issues and was never seen again afterwards, but I figure he must still be roaming Angel Island somewhere, so I decided to bring him back in my comic. I feel that Thunder lends character to Julie-Su as her loyal steed and for helping out in general. Anyway, how long do you think Saffron will be able to stay guarding the Master Emerald? Place your bets!

Oof. When reading left to right I totally fizzle out so I ended up reading the 3rd panel before the 2nd. Maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I tried thinking about how I would do that layout, but oof, kinda looks like you're backed in a corner there.
Well... I do recall reading an article that since Charmy was 16 post reboot and they wanted to make him more like in the current games as a kid, the decision was made to give him head trauma to make him retarded and thus more -kid behaving. Yeah, I'm sure there are some regrets with that idea.

I kinda feel sorry for Saffron. Maybe if the Chaotix weren't still searching for Mighty and Ray, she'd have less trouble guarding the Master Emerald. And what if she needs to eat or drink? She can't just leave the emerald unguarded while going to find something to eat.
