Disclaimer: This is a work of satire and shouldn't be taken seriously.----/ end disclaimer
You knew it was coming, right? A brand new satire tutorial covering copying vs. referencing -- now in video game format! Yay!
Again, not based on any specific person. I guess if someone did think it was based off them, they'd have to admit they were art-thieving copiers using the guise of referencing, and odds are it really isn't based on them but their guilty conscience thinks it is. Or something like that, whatever.

This is awesome!
I have a question, though: is it considered copying/tracing if you take an image and draw the basic frame (circle and lines) to get the basic sense of proportions? I'm asking because I've considered doing that for some trickier anatomy, but I don't want to feel like I'm tracing or cheating. DX

Step 4,
I actually know someone who acts exactly like this when people accuse them of tracing... And they said that they referenced it... But it was traced all right... ._.;
Still. This is so true it's scary. Which makes it awesome.

I love these for the sole reason they help me realize how far i've come. I totally admit to once being like that, and frankly, I'm quite ashamed. BUT, these have really given me some giggles and helped me realize that I've improved so much from that stage. Oh and I love your chibi's because they're cute!

A lot of people start out that way too. The big thing is to move past it and continue striving for improvement.
And I'm glad you like the chibis!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who used to do that.
=_= I remember looking down at that folder of badly-repainted photos and feeling both proud of myself, and guilty as well.
I never posted them, and deleted them shortly before entering Highschool.
Glad I did.
References win!
And now I can proudly say the work I post is completely my own.
Unless otherwise stated -> Colored someone else's linart, given credit and linked

-bows head in shame-
I did this when I was like...twelve. But even I told people I didn't create the art, i was just copying it because i wanted to learn how to imitate a style..
Thankfully, I think I've stopped that by now.
But you have inspired me! Forget my charcaters, i needs me some cat-tailed bunny-people ninjas with swords that spit rainbows and are named...Naruto...to. Narutoto!
It shall be fantasmic.

You win for this. So much. So much that I feel compelled to draw you something and mail it to you, if I had time.
BEST TUTORIAL EVER.
Don't forget the ever popular - ugh, you can't tell you used that reference you credited cuz it doesn't look like the original, so you must not have drawn it right...
Oh. Em. Gee. That's because I used it for proportions, the lighting, etc? And not because I actually wanted a picture of that stock picture in art form, but because I had an idea and needed help with the execution? And because I thought it was in their rules to credit even if OMG my art looks nothing like their stock photo. o_O
Oh, and of course, you shouldn't reference from things that aren't stock, because they didn't give you permission. -_-
But I love you for this. I do. I love you. I'm going to show this to everyone who gets on my nerves when I'm using stock photos to try and improve my abilities even when I'm drawing fanart, because it should be based on stock, and not a traced screencap, which results in... no originality...

God darnit, I never knew accusations were shaped like pterodactyls! This adds extra fun to reading them xD
But great one. I always love your tutorials, and this is so funny xD
It's sad when people do that. In fact, these last few days I've been trying to organize/clean my watched list, checking the ones I didn't remember very well. And I found a surprising amount of them were banned due to art theft, or *ahem* "heavy referencing" (bleh...). I mean, it was a surprise to find that about 5 out of 100 people did. It's not that high of a number, but I thought I could identify them better (although some of them copy from the same artist all the time, so that gives them a sort of predominant style, and can fool people more easily).

It's sometimes tough to tell if someone is an art thief or not. Usually it's pretty easy to figure out, but once in awhile...
