Description
So, about a year ago, there was a Mexican-themed party. A friend and I went as Aztec priests of Tezcatlipoca (who had a tendency to paint themselves black with ashes)... Facepaint vaguely inspired by codice illutrations, same with the bandaged bloodied forearms. Everything else was..well, it would make historains want to slap me silly. I mean, I'm not sure women even served Enemy on Both Sides.Forgive me, O Inga Clendinnen.
coloured pencils and felt tip pen during a train ride.
photograph coming up shortly.
p.s. I caught two trains and a bus dressed like this, and naturally, we spent all night explaining the costumes over and over and over again.

bandaged forearms are a bit of an odd twist if you ask me, but she looks beautifully casual and hip! Lovely artwork!

well, the priests did practice auto-sacrifice of blood from their tongues, inner lips and limbs, and i'm pretty sure Ive seen white arm wrappings in some codex illustrations... don't know if they're bandages or just ceremonial garb, though.
*smiles* and thank you. Sometimes it's good to run away with history and do very inappropriate things to it in ones sketchpad, so I'm glad the results are likeable...
I'm sure no self respecting member of the clergy would adopt such a casual posture, but seeing as this was my costume, and I seldom adopt any other posture, she turned out pretty mellow and chilled out for someone whose job it is to pull peoples hearts out of their ribcages on a regular basis.*grin*

Well, I guess you'd get used to the gore if it was your profession! But she does look so sweet! She's a femme fatale for sure!
