Description
Later that night, a friend of mine, Stacy, asked me if I wanted to stop by the local coffee shop to draw together. I don't know WHY I accepted that request. It SHOULD have been a bad idea, and it SHOULD have ended with me in a fit of rage over my drawing difficutly.
Amazingly, it didn't.
The first drawing was another quick anatomical sketch. I had Stacy to talk to while I did this, though, which made it bearable. Making another stupid move, I decided to go for a pose I've never been able to accomplish successfully: the upside-down, looping Dash.
My gesture, again, amazingly, turned out rather nice. I still like that sketch for what it is, everything else aside. I even like the stylized facial expression I gave her; I may return to that for a style experiment sometime. Sketching gesturally and intuitively, I gradually transferred my new knowledge of anatomy into the drawing to revise areas that didn't look good, and ended up with that upper right sketch there. Man. I really, really like that.
I decided to execute that sketch and even shade it, using techniques from my drawing class. Another HORRENDOUS idea. But things were going well, so I stuck with it. I even tried texturing the mane, tail, and wings, which didn't work out TOO well, but I think it looks nice regardless. And I'm really, really happy with the result.
I didn't stop there, though. I moved onto the next page.
