Description
Here is Manda, it is quite a reworking of the Manda concept – I hope you like it. Sorry it is so late, but I am really busy. i probably won't get to K.G. this year, but you never know.FYI: my son helped me choose the colors. Manda is one of his favorite kaiju and I was happily surprised that he actually liked my redesign. Unfortunately he choose a striped green blue pattern for Manda's horns. I colored it that way, but I just couldn't post it. So I kept his concept and added the pictured horns on another layer.
Origin:
Manda is the creation of the ancient civilization of Mu. Created using Mosasaur base DNA (but a vast majority of unique DNA) and advanced biological and metaphysical engineering. Manda was incomplete during the fall of Mu at the end of the Cretaceous. After the cataclysm that destroyed their civilization, the survivors of Mu created a hidden city at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean within the remains of their sunken empire. Though they had lost the technology and knowledge to create new kaiju, they were able to finish the Manda project. Manda was the giant protector of the submerged City of Mu, destroying anything that came within 5 miles of the crumbling ocean civilization. Unfortunately, over many eons, as the civilization of Mu continued to degenerate, the ability to control Manda was lost. Thus, Manda became not only the protector of Mu, but also its jailer. It would destroy its own creators if they entered the water around their deteriorating city state. Manda continued to protect Mu long after the death of all of its inhabitants. In 2015 it repelled the Gotengo II during the initial discovery of MU by the UN Anti-Kaiju research team. Finally, in 2051, an armada of submersible AKM (Anti-Kaiju Mecha) and the US super-sub the “Eliminator” are believed to have killed Manda with the newly developed nuclear torpedoes.
Attacks:
Teeth, horns (ramming), toxic spines, rear fin barb (engineered flesh eating venom)
Defenses:
Massive size, very strong hide/armor, regeneration
Weaknesses:
Not very mobile on land, no range attacks
Special Abilities:
Swims at up to 100 knots, limited telepathy
Next: King Ghidorah
Manda is copyright Toho Co. ltd.

Now here's a Manda that looks like he could actually fight some of the other monsters in the Godzillaverse.

why not give him an electricall energy breath. i know its kinda lame but it allows the early creatures to compete more with the new kaiju on the block. hedorah was tough because of his hide, form changes plus an energy optic attack the first enemy kaiju with one.

I could, but I don't think this version of Manda needs it. Plus, I don't think electricity and water mix! Thank you for the suggestion.

i'm using for a more god-like version in a potential godzilla anime called Godzilla Wars after an old trendmasters toyline. it follows the tristar series somewhat in plotline. the team goes around defeating, investigating large monster sightings based from new designs off of old toho creatures.

I prefer Manda as an oriental fairy tale dragon, but this prehistoric sea reptile take is still intriguing.

Thanks. I too have always enjoyed the asian dragon design of Manda, however, the mosasaur concept is more in-line with my reworking of the godzilla kaijuverse. I am also playing around with the idea that Manda might "transform" from this concept into a more asian lung type design.

Hopefully it will be in the next few weeks. I am getting my first Wacom tablet next wek and I thought I would try do King Ghidorah as my first completely digital kaiju art! Hopefully, I can use the thing without much trouble!

Mosasaur based... damn, that's good. That's so good I wish I thought of it. Another excellent redesign. That poison barb seems to be particularly nasty.

Thanks. I've always liked Mosasuars and when I decided to make most of my kaiju redesigns based on late cretaceous inhabitants it just made sense. I like the barb too.

'Impressive' doesn't really begin to describe this one, HG. Clever tweaking of Manda's basic origin, history & nature alike (as noted), horrendous size boost (as also noted), and finally an excellent design...one that, sans the draconic horns, could very well have swum the Mesozoic seas in some way, shape or form (if not size, of course).
I do wonder how Manda's telepathy figured into the events you describe...was it mainly a communication/control tool for its creators to employ?

hypergojira In reply to geekspace [2007-11-25 05:01:08 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. The horns and "feet" are nod to the original dragon design and to emphasize that it is not just a huge mosasaur.
You got it. The telepathy was for communication and control.

Fantastic! It's so different, and yet, it not only follows Manda's original lore, but improves upon it! I really like this redesign- it's just awesome! And kudos, too, for making him something other than a dragon.

Wow! Manda is really beautiful, and deadly looking, here. I like the mosasaur incorperated into it, and it's HUGE! I also like the idea of the flesh eating toxin in the spikes of it's flippers.
I just love the face. The eyes, the horns, the little spikes, every thing about it is just...awesome. Wonderful Manda redisign, my favorite ever!

It is huge isn't it! Manda's head is about the size of the original Gojira!. I just making it bigger and bigger until it felt right. I guess I just decided to make manda a giant among giants because it is primarily a water beastie.

Thanks, I was worried people would not like it. I always liked the original Manda, but this redesign fit into my Gojira Mythos a little better.
