Description A few years ago, I made a story called "Captain America: The American Way" in which I re-did Captain America's origin in the DC Universe, replacing Superman. This time around, Im doing it again. In this Elseworlds/What if?, its time to re-create Superman in the Marvel Universe, replacing Cap.

Thanks to jamesmarquis2 for the suggestion.

Enjoy...

Another Side; Another Story...

Decades Ago, there was a planet known as Krypton. A futuristic utopia of art, history, and science, Krypton was a planet well ahead of its time, but sadly, that was not to last forever.

For reasons yet to be revealed, Krypton was destroyed. During its destruction, Krypton's leading scientist Jor-El had only one plan for his people to live on: by sending his only son, Kal-El, into a rocket ship and firing it at the one planet that could truely raise Kal as one of their own, and raise him with love, understanding, and compassion. This planet: Earth.

Antartica, 1945

Towards the end of World War II, America's champion of justice, Captain America and his partner Bucky Barnes were attempting to dismantle a weapon of unlimited distruction heading directly towards New York. The Captain was able to guide the weapon off coarse, but due to horrible luck, Kal-El's rocket crashed straight through the weapon, detonating it on sight. Captain America and Bucky died that day, their charred bodies crashing into the Artic, but little Kal was unaware that he was responsible for Cap's death.

The rocket continued its coarse and crashed directly into Brooklyn, New York, finding itself crashing straight into the home of newlyweds May and Ben Parker. The couple found the baby and immediatly wanted to take it in as their own (unable to conceive children themselves). Ben's brother, Richard Parker, was a top agent for an up and coming secret agent group known as SHIELD. He found a means to hide Kal's landing in Brooklyn, under the rules that May and Ben would have to raise the alien child, extinguishing the threat of an alien takeover. The Parker's happily accepted.

The child, named Clark Parker (after May's obsession with Clark Gable) grew as a happy, yet inquizitive young man, displaying a fair amout of unique abilities. Of these abilities, its was Clark's strange longevity that seemed the most unique. When he was about 40, he looked to be in his mid-twenties, now caring for his parents (as well as May and Ben's nephew, Peter, who was taken in with the Parkers after his parents death).

Questioning this, Ben finally showed Clark the truth via his spaceship. For strange reasons, Clark could read the odd alien writing on the ship, seeing that he was destined to begin his training and advance his powers, standing as the 'Chosen One' to stop what was simply known as 'The Coming', an event that led to the destruction of Krypton that may also destroy Earth.

After a teary goodbye, Clark left New York and went on a global adventure that eventually led him to the North Pole, and to his Fortress of Sollitude. It is there that he was given his uniform, a Kryptonian shroud of hope, and began his training...

Years later, in a world with a Captain America, the world needed heroes. One hero in New York stood tall. That hero was named Iron Man. Tony Stark, using the disguise to make the world a better place AND keeping his own heart beating, found the world crisis more and more challenging. He needed help. So, Stark established his own team: The Avengers. Thor, the God of Thunder, the Incredible Hulk, Wasp, and Ant-Man teamed up with Iron Man, but after their first mission against trickster god Loki, the team disassembled, finding that the lack of a team leader was a huge factor.

Thor returned to Valhalla, not seeing humanity as 'worth saving', Hulk was apprehended and brought into SHIELD after being accused of 'dna tampering', and Ant-Man was forced to retire after the loss of an arm during the first mission. Iron Man and Wasp were all that remained, but with only a duo, the team could not stand.

That's when the miracle arrived.

New York city was under attack by a villian known as Mr. Hyde. It wasn't until a hero with incredible speed, strength, and flight arrived and defeated Hyde in record time. Iron Man and Wasp were stunned. The stranger, who wore an S on his chest, found a new codename via the mouth of Tony Stark: Superman.

Stark knew that he needed Superman in the Avengers, but he had no idea that Superman was also the leader the Avengers needed. As the trio began to go on patrol, they eventually found more members to join their team:

The Avenger's defeat of Magneto and his Brotherhood led to siblings Quicksiler and the Scarlet Witch joining the team.

Superman demolishing robot Ultron led to servant robot known as the Vision to join the team.

Also, Sam Wilson, better known as the Falcon, found a place in the Avengers out of tribute for his fallen hero, Captain America.

Despite a certain newpaper editor at the Daily Bugle calling Superman a 'Menace', the world quickly fell in love with Superman, becoming the 'Sentinel of Liberty' the world needed. The Avengers found a new Headquarters in Stark Tower, and Earth's Mightiest Heroes were more Mighty then ever.

However, after discovering some date on former Avengers members, Clark discovered a shocking revelation: after he was sent to Earth and investigated by SHIELD, a young SHIELD agent took a small amount of his DNA and used it on himself, finding that the DNA made him into a violent, bruting monster.

That young agent's name: Dr. Bruce Banner.

Superman had a few questions, and to get answers, The Sentinel of Liberty would have to invade SHIELD...
