Description
This started out as something for the opening page of my website, then I thought I'd make it into a Deviant ID card but then I settled on making it a piece on its own.This is a self portrait of me. The title says 'I Jumped' but it's up for debate whether I'm falling or not.
This was made in Illustrator so it's 100% vector.
This is a tip for vector artists [or artists in general] - The human face has more than 1 colour in it and they're layered on each other. I know having a monotoned face in vector art works sometimes - and I've done it too - but for more lifelike work you've gotta realize we're all layers of colour.

i really love the dynamics of this picture, it works very well. thanks for the tip about layering the skin tones i can see it in your image and it really does set this aside from your average vector. the plane and it's contrail are an excellent framing device along with the cloud line and the colour in the sky though subtle makes the whole background stand out making the picture more vibrant and alive. really like the overall image +fav

insane vectoring man. Is that with multiply layers and other blending modes. I just figured some of that out today with the vector shades and stuff like that.
Can you elaborate a little more on how you did that or provide an AI file that I can look at? Sick stuff man; schweet vectors.

I love the detail in the shirt and pants especially. The only thing I can see that doesn't quite look right is the left hand (character's left, not viewer's), I just think it goes a bit too white. But thats all I can see, and this piece is definitely one of my fave vector pieces of all time

do you paint using a palette knife? well illustrator's like that.
you lay down flat shapes of color and build it up slowly

this is a top piece - i particularly like the way you have worked with the gradients (something i battle with) - the shirt on thr ight hand side under the arm seems a bit large

i shit you not: i had a dream that i jumped off this massive floating island thousands of feet in the air.. above the clouds. It looked just this.. This is fucking great !! i wazs going to do the EXACT SAME THING.. but i was going head first ... HAHA AWSOME !!!! I LOVE THIS .. FAVORITE...
this floating island had a monestary on it.. and it was going to blow up. and if i didn't jump... i wouldn't make it paste purgatory, and i would not go on to the next phase of life. i'd be sent back to earth. it was the strangest dream id ever had.

I, myself, have just completed a course in graphic art-- using mainly illustrator. I was new to the program, and I'm still learning, but even so, I know how difficult it can be to do ANYTHING in illustrator and yet, somehow, you've seemed to created something fantastic. I'm simply amazed, by this wondeful piece: how naturally the colors blend together [especially in the skin tone] and the clouds-- Honestly, I can't even begin to imagine how you've rendered the sunset [or sunrise] so beautifully... USING ILLUSTRATOR, NOLESS! It just boggles my mind. But all in all, I must say... This is FUCKING AWESOME.

I have to agree that you did a really nice job on this piece. The wrinkling on the clothes and the shading on the face and hands are detailed enough that you know what the deal is but you didn't to enough so as to try and make it photo realistic. Good work, and as for the background even better work at the evening sky type look

Nice, like the surprised look on your face. Like someone just pushed you, or you fell, not really like you jumped. It would be a totally awesome picture if the clothing looked more billowy, like the figure was actually falling. But thats not a fault, just a suggestion. Nice work.

Oh wow, this looks awesome, especially for vector. I've never gotten anything this nice to come out of that damn program. I think I'm just not meant to do computer art... *shrug* The details and anatomy in this are incredible, as well as the color choice. Keep up the great work!
