I decided against adding the text on here, as it would breach copyright... basically this is the first pic in a series which shows Varjak basically doin some crazy Dragon-Ball-Z style power-up (well, not quite, it's a little more tastefully done, but still, you can't help but draw lines of comparison). In this pic, the world is meant to be shimmering... I decided not to let it shimmer in a traditional way... just to be weird... and different. It's in two shades of grey cos the illustrations that are already in the book use this effect... and I thought it only fair to let myself do it too!Indian ink and pooter did the flat grey colouring.

It's not really my usual style... I normally work in full colour in acrylics but i've had pretty good feedback from these black and white ones...

I may do some internal illustrations with people rather than cats with either Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, or Frances Hardinges "Fly by Night".

Shimmering... Well, I wonder if Varjak is a clubbing cat walking into a harem parlour. It's pretty bling, bling with all the stars there, but it can also means dizzy or Varjak just poofs out of thin air like a genie... Maybe you can try different levels of greyscales on the background to offer depths. But I already like it anyway, keep it up

alas, i can't see it in full-size. but as small as i see it, it's fine. i like the expressive lines and the way you draw the cats, it's unusual and a bit crazy, just like a good magic story illustration should be.
