Description I know there are several of these, but I wanted a simple, easily explained one to throw at people.

If you have any questions at ALL, feel free to ask! ^_^

LITERAL YEARS LATER UPDATE:
The last part of this is VERY shitty advice. JFC.
PLEASE learn how to delete excess bones, physics and vertices. Leaving those is a newb-ass mistake and likely the cause of 99% of your model's issues.

I learned from this mistake myself real quick and if I hadn't disabled comments on this, people would likely have shouted this at me.

Umm....
I'm trying to put clothes on my model, and I'm wondering that .. Should I put bones on the clothes so they can attached on the model?

If they already have their own bones, then when you add them to the model they'll merge automatically. So no, in this case.

If they DON'T have their own already, just add the clothes to the model and rig them onto the model's bones. They'll work more accurately that way anyway.

I usually use the "limited English" version: [link]
But it looks like they've updated it since then!: [link]

This should work in any version however, so can you be more specific?
I tried to keep things simple, but I think I may have explained things a little strangely.

It's alright, we all had to figure things out at some point or another, so I'm happy to help~

How do you add items like Miku's hair?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to Moonhitomi1 [2012-08-24 23:13:34 +0000 UTC]

The second half of this explains that. Look right under Haku's feet there.
Just drag and drop the bits you want to add and click the second bubble in the pop up that comes up. Then follow the tutorial from there.

question, ive attached the bone to the head properly like explained in the tutorial to make her head stick to the body but now it does like an indian bobble sorta thing do you know how to fix that??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to chelseadigger [2012-02-11 05:53:52 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... Did you connect a pmd to the head or an x file?
If it's a pmd then it could be a complicated glitch, but with a .x I should be able to help quick.

If worse comes to worse and we *can't* fix it, you can also try just re-weighting whatever you're attaching straight onto the head bone, thus ignoring whatever problematic bone caused your glitch.

Are you maybe talking about this?: [link]
Because THAT is super easy to fix~ I'm commenting on it in just a sec...

what if you need to attach it to multiple bones? like a x. file thats a shirt with sleeves?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to piratechickkristy [2011-06-14 03:21:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, you need to rig the .x so that it has it's own bones... That's an entirely different tutorial though, so I recommend this: [link]

FangzV [2011-03-21 11:22:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you soooo much. This is exactly what I need. It's not disorganised at all.

I am having an issue though. What I'm attaching is a jacket. Where should I attach it to, do you think?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to FangzV [2011-03-21 22:59:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, with a jacket you'd have to attach it in several places... Hopefully it has its own bones already? If you want it to work properly then it needs to be attached to the upper body bone AND the separate arm bones. Otherwise the arms won't move with it. :/

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

piratechickkristy In reply to JerisEnigma [2011-06-14 02:17:08 +0000 UTC]

how do you attach it to the upper body AND arm bones?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to piratechickkristy [2011-06-14 03:18:18 +0000 UTC]

Attach it's center to the upper body and it's arm bones to the arms... >.>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

piratechickkristy In reply to JerisEnigma [2011-06-14 03:43:35 +0000 UTC]

it only has one bone

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JerisEnigma In reply to sofitssofi [2011-01-26 07:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Only if it's something you want to move WITH the head. If you were adding shoes or something you'd need to attach it elsewhere of course.

Then again, seeing the shoes dart around off the feet would be kinda hilarious~ LOL
