A lot of people mentioned that it's hard for them to sketch cleanly, so the last tutorial didn't really apply. I have the same problem, and it takes a looooot of extra work on paper (erase, erase, draw, erase) to get pencil lines clean enough to start coloring off of. So.... that's why I often turn to Digital Inking!
Here are some of the ways that I do Digital Inking. I know the "trace directly over the original image" is probably the most common method, but it's hard to do without a tablet and also hard for people with unsteady hands, so that's why I talked a bit about other methods.

This is a great tutorial, but which version of Photoshop do you use? I've got Photoshop Elements 3.0 but it doesn't seem to have a pen tool..

I have a problem in method 2, with the path. When I
trace it with the pen tool and stretch it, it doesn't
make a line, it instead makes some kind of half-circle
that is filled with black, and when I right-click on it,
the "stroke path" option is not available. Please help!

This is brilliant! I had no clue how to digitally ink. Not one. Oh yes, there were tutorials, but not a single one helped me. Not one. Which sort of shocked me...

Hello ^^ great tutorial!! Umm I have paint shop pro 8 and 9 and i noticed the pen tool was similar to the one for photoshops pen tool, but when I tired to outline using psp 8, I couldnt figure out a way to somehow get the inked lines like the ones in your example. I was just wondering if there was a way, or if Id have to go out and buy photoshop? ADORABLE firefly girl by the way! lol

I must try out that pen tool, it looks really handy *___* I have a tablet but I just don't get the lines look good with the normal brush tool, maybe this'll help

i just found this tutorial n it has helped me start to get to gripps with photoshop (which was previously taunting me for being so confused!). So thankyou very much for your help.
